Heels Beat Spurs

Just about every Tar Heel had a good game this past Sunday, and they beat the Spurs for the second time this season, 27-24. The Heels scored eleven unanswered points to open the second half, giving them a lead they would not relinquish. Matthew played tough defense, handled the ball several times on offense, and grabbed a rebound.

TH.…2…..8…19…27

SP…2…10…15…24

The eleven straight points were part of an 15 – 2 run. With the score 17 – 10, the Spurs came back to within two, making the score 19 – 17 early in the fourth quarter. After the Heels scored six straight points the Spurs answered, scoring eight straight to come within two points of tying the game in the final minute. JB then scored, to ice the game.

Matthew almost tied the game just before the half. As the seconds ticked down he grabbed a loose ball and immediately turned and shot. The exciting play would’ve provided a big momentum boost.

All the less experienced players contributed to the win. Colin and Ben had their season high rebound game, and both just missed making several shots. As he ran the court, Colin’s face was filled with confidence and joy. Twice Jackson fed the ball inside to JB for baskets (he made several other good feeds, but the shots were missed). Jackson and Riley were fearless, hustling and diving after loose balls. Kevin’s fine play has earned him the starting point guard spot. The fact that they’re fouling shows they’re involved in the game.

Patrick…7 points, 18 rebounds, 2 steals, 5 blocks
