NL MVP?

In the American League the MVP debate centers around Miquel Cabrera’s tremendous numbers at the plate (and his winning team) versus Mike Trout’s all-around game (and his losing team). A similar debate could be waged in the senior circuit, where northeastern media darling Andrew McCutchen offensive stats compare favorably to Freddie Freeman’s. Both played on playoff teams, though the Pirates’ rags to riches story trumps that of the always-competitive Braves. Like Trout, Paul Goldschmidt actually had a better overall season for the lowly Diamondbacks. While deserving MVP consideration, good-guy Goldschmidt and young Freeman appear destined to be out-balloted by McCutchen.

Goldschmidt edges Freeman as a fielder. Both are clearly better in the field than McCutchen. As a fielder the Pirate gets more credit than he deserves.
