Kevin Willis Tom Hanks Bob Uecker

Last night Matthew was working the checkout line at his East Cobb Whole Foods when a really tall man checked out. The guy in line asked M if he knew who he was. M didn’t know. Former Hawk Kevin Willis. I showed M and C a photo of Willis and said “I might’ve been at that game against the Bulls.” Ceil remembered attending that game with me. Willis had a 23 year NBA career, including 12 with the Hawks. Willis also played with the Heat, Warriors, Rockets (twice), Raptors, Nuggets, Spurs, and Mavericks.

After work yesterday I drove over to near Perimeter Mall and met Anna at Taco Mac. Yesterday and today she had to go into work to set up Christmas decorations. Discussed all types of topics, from her job search to the books we’re reading to her college roommate’s upcoming wedding at the Park Tavern across from Grady Stadium, at the corner of 10th and Monroe. A got a pimento cheese fried chicken sandwich and fries. Lots of pimento cheese on it. At the last second I ordered a Philly Chicken sandwich and tater tots. Excellent choice. Should’ve taken home half but of course I ate the whole thing.

Got home just before Ceil arrived home from The Table, her Tuesday night ministry. Turned on a Lifetime movie and God Friended Me but played on my laptop.

Also watched the Today Show’s interview with Tom Hanks from earlier in the day. Interviewer Savannah Guthrie had Hanks telling Mr. Rogers stories. Hanks said Rogers was an ordained minister who daily prayed on his knees for friends and family. Guthrie and Hanks talked about prayer. Hanks asked Guthrie if she prayed like Rogers and she said that she did. Then Guthrie asked Hanks if he prayed, and he said yes, that his prayers always started “Thank you God.” In the past Hanks has said that he does go to church. When he married actress Rita Wilson in 1988 Hanks converted to the Greek Orthodox Church.

Hanks is publicizing his new movie “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.” about Mr. Rogers. Turns out Hanks and Rogers are 6th cousins. Tom is also a descendant of Nancy Hanks, the mother of Abraham Lincoln.

Another good Dennison column today. Was not familiar with Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg  Lots from 2 Timothy, which we’re studying in Sunday School and small group. Also stumbled across a timely verse, 2 Thessalonians 2:9-10:

9: The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders.

10. and with the wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

Rodrigo Blankenship is one of three finalists for the Burlsworth Trophy, given annually to the best senior who started his career as a walk-on. Last year Clemson WR Hunter Renfrow won the award. This year Renfrow is getting playing time with the Raiders (below). Hot Rod is in the running for three elite postseason awards: the Burlsworth, the Lou Groza Award, and the Heisman Trophy for academics.

UGA photographer Chamberlain Smith released the last photo she took of RB Brian Herrien before he knocked her unconscious. Herrien’s response: “YOU’RE THE BEST. I knew it would be a good picture.” Since Saturday Smith’s Twitter following has risen from 1700 to almost seven thousand.

Saturday night we’re missing the end of GA/A&M for a get together.

GT plays NC State on Thursday night (I had forgotten about that). The Jackets are favored to win. Another new low: the Jackets are wearing all navy. Hope it's not an embarrassing evening.

I think in January Ceil’s work schedule goes from Mon-Wed to Mon-Thursday.

Couple weeks ago I signed up for a trip to San Francisco to meet Obama. Now I’m getting lots of emails from Democratic candidates.
