Christians: Which Political Party?

Nancy Shippen shared a long New York Times opinion piece written by pastor Tim Keller, asking how Christains can fit into today's two party political system. His answer: we can't.

This emphasis on package deals (aligning with one party) puts pressure on Christians in politics. For example, following both the Bible and the early church, Christians should be committed to racial justice and the poor, but also to the understanding that sex is only for marriage and for nurturing family. One of those views seems liberal and the other looks oppressively conservative.

Keller concludes: If we are only offensive or only attractive to the world and not both, we can be sure we are failing to live as we ought.

Wednesday: same old. Stayed at work trying to finish things up well past 5:30. Drove straight home. Supper was Ceil's homemade Mexican everything. I made up one burrito then piled everything on top of chips for nachos: black beans, Mexican rice, cheese, shreaded chicken. Helped with the dishes.

Had the Braves game on as I played on my laptop. C was working on school. Before the game ended for some reason the TV went off.  I was knee deep shopping for a refrigerator on line. So many models are out of stock until September or later. Stumbled across one that can deliver next week.

The Yankees beat up on my Braves. Sad game with Acuna, Albies, Stanton, and Judge on the bench. Hopefully the Braves can beat up on the Marlins this weekend.

M's interview at Little Rey went well. It's the taco place at Piedmont & Cheshire Bridge, where the bank used to be. Don't tell George. They made M prepare some food to see his skills. Next week M has interviews at Beetlecat and Superica.

Anna has been working both at the Ansley Mall High Country, and some at the Buckhead store on Roswell Road just north of where Piedmont and Powers Ferry intersect.

BOBBY AVILA  [SABR Bio] found a book by former major leaguer Jack Coombs and used it to teach himself the game of baseball. Former pitcher Jack Coombs authored "Baseball: Individual Team Play and Strategy." Avila once collected fifteen total bases in a single game 20-Jun-1951 (3 HR, double, single)  The last HR was a 9th inning inside-the-park blast. He made the All-Star team for the first time the year he led the league in triples. His 11 triples led the AL in 1952 but was the only time in his 11-year career that he had more than four triples in a year. He turned pro at age 14. He was paid to play soccer with the Espana Club of Veracruz

With coronavirus and our more relaxed dress code at work, I've pretty much decided to wear sneakers to work every day from here on out. I'm not a jeans guy but most all my pants are lightweight, dri-fit, hiking or golf type pants. This week I'm wearing five different pairs of sneakers to work: (1) blue Hokas, (2) colorful Puma RX-S, (3) grey wool AllBirds, (4) black Nikes today, and (5) grey Adidas Alphaboosts tomorrow for the big baseball showdown at lunch.
