Tiny Perfect Things

Unlike many jaded movie reviewers, I am a sucker for movies with Groundhog Day-like plots. ‘The Map of Tiny Perfect Things’ just debuted on Amazon Prime last week, and I happened to stumble upon it. Filmed in Fairhope Alabama, on Mobile Bay. A decent movie that had its moments. The teenage main characters made a point to stop and observe tiny but significant things taking place around them. Makes me wonder what I would do if I was stuck repeating the same day. And if I could do all these things, what’s stopping me from doing them now?

Every day I could visit a different friend – regardless of where they live. Mike & Lisa in Houston. Pete & Marty in Denver.  Hawaii might be a stretch, but I could visit Key West, Disney World, Bermuda, NYC, Washington, Boston, Maine, and other places. Figure out a way to golf at Augusta National and Pebble Beach. Attend every sporting event taking place that particular day. Figure out where foul balls are going to land, and catch all of them. Not that it would carry over, but I could win a bunch of money in Vegas. Eat ice cream and burgers and BBQ and pizza.

Have a good weekend? Ceil went to a women’s event at church, so I made several stops on the way home Friday. Watched Who Wants to be a Millionaire, with Amanda Peete winning $125,000.00. Watched Pebble Beach. Wished they’d been able to have the celebrities play.

C was gone Saturday morning as well. I cleaned upstairs then ran errands: (1) Whole Foods for tulips and oranges, (2) Trader Joes for Valentines cookies and cake. (3) Park Avenue for a 50 cent Braves golf shirt. (4) Dollar Tree for Valentines. (5) Lunch. (6) Kroger for cheese and peanut butter.

Now when it warms up I can wear a different Braves gold shirt to work every day for 2-1/2 weeks: (1) navy Braves Operations, (2) red Braves retail, (3) blue large Braves A, (4) grey Braves Vision, (5) navy Braves Maintenance, (6) blue script Braves, (7) red & blue Turner Field Usher polo, (8) grey large A quarter zip, (9) black Braves Vision quarter zip, (10) Braves hoodie, (11) blue tomahawk A pullover, (12) navy MLB large A pullover, (13) blue & red large A pullover.

Back home I fired up the old Jeep and took it for a drive. Forgot my mask so I couldn’t make a stop. Was coming up Timber Ridge from the river, but a tree was leaning out over the road, its branches blocking the way. Had to go a longer way home.

When C got home we couldn’t figure out where to eat. She wound up grilling steak, with baked potato and cole slaw. Watched Hallmark movies. Matthew stopped by to visit.

On line Sunday School and worship. A good lesson on humility. I can never be too humble. In John 3:30 John the Baptist said “ He must increase, but I must decrease.” Ceil had fixed me a bagel with a fried egg, ham, and cheese for breakfast. Later we ate at Little Rey, at the corner of Piedmont and Cheshire Bridge. Visited Anna at Ansley Mall. Got home at 6:30. I wasn’t feeling well, so I took a late nap. More Hallmark movies.

SHANE SPENCER  [Wiki Bio] a one-time Texas Ranger, who hit into Randy Velarde’s unassisted triple play on 29-May-2000 In 1995 he was MVP of the Florida State League playing for the Tampa Yankees. In 1998, his 1st MLB season, he hit .373 with ten home runs, accompanied by a slugging percentage of .910 in 27 games for NYY.  For good measure, he added two home runs in the LDS vs TEX and went 1 for 3 as the NYY defeated SDP in the 1998 WS.

Last March Tampa Bay wide receiver Chris Godwin traded his number 12 for Tom Brady’s promise of a Super Bowl championship. Brady delivered.

Denison: the Washington National Cathedral recently came under fire for inviting evangelical pastor Max Lucado to speak. The reason: his biblical views on marriage. It is conventional wisdom today that LGBTQ rights are human rights. Love is love. Your sexual orientation and/or gender identity is your business, not mine. No one, including evangelical Christians, has the right to impose their beliefs on others. At most, evangelicals can claim the First Amendment protection of religious freedom and free speech, but many in our culture view this as merely the right to be wrong. It is vital that Christians never concede the high ground of truth and science in this cultural contest. Thousands of books and articles have been written documenting the scientific, biological, and factual evidence for biblical morality. Our Creator knows us better than we do and wants only our best. He is “merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness” (Psalm 86:15).
