R.I.P. BJ Thomas

BJ Thomas passed away yesterday. Loved his voice. Hooked on a Felling. Raindrops Keep Fallin on My Head. Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song. After years of addition to drugs and alcohol, Thomas found Jesus and sobered up. Love Boat captain Merrell Stubing, played by Gavin MacLeod, traveled a similar route. I liked him best as copywriter Murray Slaughter on The Mary Tyler Moore Show.
The Carolina Disco Turkeys, a new team based in Winston Salem, unveiled their uniforms this week.
The sleeves were inspired by the Braves uniforms of the early 1970's, but with the recognizable eye of the peacock's feather, along with the bands of color. Too bad the front of the Turkey's jerseys aren't as appealing.
Several Bojangles near me closed down. Love their biscuits. Last week I got a Wendy’s BOGO bason egg and cheese biscuits. Bacon was perfect – crisp not chewy. Biscuits hadn’t been fully microwaved – very doughy. Ugh. America’s favorite breakfast my foot.

Thursday: the office brought in Chickfila biscuits since we had to come in early to set up the new phone system. I haven’t really studied all its features. After work I took a rowing class. Good exercise, but not really my thing. Stir fry for supper. Winner is getting better at the nighttime routine.

Friday was the last work day of the month, so plenty to do.

Fridays at the office are designated as wear a cap day. Usually not really my thing, but recently I’ve been wearing caps more to better shield the glare of the sun. So many lights in the office that I decided to wear a cap inside today. Wore my new 2014 Braves spring training cap. I’ll try to wear a different cap every Friday.

Watched some Seinfelds, including the one where George's girlfriend (The Drew Carey Show's Christa Miller) liked him not matter how he dressed.

Tim Tebow has the top selling NFL jersey.
Yesterday actor Luke (Fast & Furious 6) Evans
spent lots of money in Anna's store.

Waxy stuff. Whenever Matthew comes home he has Ceil clean out his ears. She always cleaned out Barney’s ears as well. Never my ears. No wonder I'm hard of hearing.

Friday night we visited Anna's house for the first time.     Winnie got to meet Okie.

Sunday we visited Matthew's Glenwood Avenue bakery. Matthew got to meet Winnie.

CASEY STENGEL  [SABR Bio] hit the first World Series homer in Yankee Stadium. G 1, 1923 WS, 9th inning, an inside-the-park game-winner. In his major league debut he had four hits and a walk. That walk was the only time he went to bat from the other side of the plate, in career of more than 4,000 at-bats. Against the Pirates on 17-Sep-1912. Opposing manager Fred Clarke called him a fresh busher and challenged him to hit righthanded.  He did and drew a walk. He was the first Dodger to lead the National League in on-base percentage. Playing for BRO in 1914, the first year they were called the Robins, Stengel posted a nifty .404 OBP.

CURT FLOOD [SABR Bio] held the National League record for consecutive errorless games played in center field until it was broken up by a future Hall of Famer from his own team. Flood’s 226 straight errorless games at CF ended 04-Jun-1967 when he and LF Lou Brock both tried for a fly ball. The ball fell in when they crashed into each other and Flood complained afterwards about this controversial error. Flood's record was surpassed by Darren Lewis in 1993. He collected the first MLB hit at Parc Jarry. On 14-Apr-1969 in the first regular-season game played outside the U.S., Flood was the second batter in the top of the first inning. He doubled to left. The Expos won the game though, 8-7. He broke up what might have been the second World Series perfect game with a walk in the 7th. BOS starter Jim Lonborg had a perfect game in the 2nd G of the 1967 WS. In the 7th, Flood walked, ending the perfecto bid. Julian Javier doubled in the 8th to end the possibility of a no-hitter.

Denison: A USA Today writer called on AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, to cancel the Promise Keepers Men's Conference scheduled for July 16-17, claiming the stadium is "helping to mainstream hate speech." Vandals toppled a statue of Jesus and burned an American flag outside a Catholic church in Brooklyn, New York. A federal judge denied a request from the College of the Ozarks, a Christian university in Missouri, to be exempted from a Biden administration directive that allows biological men who "identify" as female to live in women's dormitories. An emeritus professor of neuroscience and psychology at Duke University has been removed from an American Psychological Association group for suggesting there are only two sexes.
