When Winning Is Not Enough

Last night the Red Sox scored one run in the bottom of the first, and social media started back trashing Morton and Snit. Then the team didn’t allow another run the rest of the game. People get mad if the Braves let another team score one run. Gotta admit I hate it when one of those bearded shaggy-haired husky white-shoe wearing relievers comes in and walks the leadoff hitter.

You play to win no matter the score. I say you let position players pitch to save wear and tear on your regular pitchers. Its all fun and games until someone gets hurt. Rest Freddie Freeman and Acuna at the end of games to save wear and tear.

Braves are just one game behind the first place Mets. Atlanta has a winning road record, Only the Marlins have as good a record in the last ten games. Everyone was saying what a madhouse it was this past Sunday at the Braves bobblehead game. I knew it would be. Glad I didn’t go.

Tuesday: left shortly after five. Used my gift card at Dominos again, this time on a large ground beef, bacon, and onion thin crust pizza. Saved half for today’s lunch.

Ceil had gone to her women’s ministry. There had been a stabbing at the nearby hotel earlier yesterday, where many of the women stay.

Heard Winnie whining as I pulled into the garage, but when I came inside she was sitting in her crate waiting patiently. Then she was super excited to see me. She loves to fetch the tennis ball, which was good. We played inside and outside. Later on we tried to keep her engaged, so she’d sleep when we did. I went to bed earlier, but through the night Winnie was quiet again.

Tomorrow we switch over to a new phone system at work, which will take time to get used to. Not sure if the folks who’ve been working from home will come to set up their phones. As usual, I’m still swamped with work.

W&MC are at Hilton Head this week with her family. Today is MC’s birthday. Anna is dog-sitting Okie.

Sad news: the guy we work with at our supplier in Anniston lost his 24 year-old son in an automobile accident last night. A co-worker's wife passed away.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:5-12a: Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on My account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:21-22: You have heard that it was said to those of old, ’You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be liable for judgement’, but I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgement, whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council, and whoever says ‘You fool!” will be liable to the hell of fire.

King David said in Psalm 51:17: The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

I’m trying to take the time to study verses like these, re-typing them, letting the words sink in all the more, determining whether or not I’m actually following that verse. It’s one thing to copy and paste a meme of a Bible verse, or see the posted verse is one you’re familiar with and move on.

I work hard to be open minded. So easy to be close-minded. Don’t confuse close-minded people with the facts. Their minds are already made up. Don’t expect them to listen to someone else’s side of the story. They know what’s right, and that’s that. God may extend grace, but not a close-minded person (unless they have an underlying motive).

Louis Oosthuizen fell victim to his social-media manager's mistake. Like many golfers, he hired someone to post on social media - who posted wrong information, or a photo of the wrong golfer. Not the first time this has happened.

JACKIE ROBINSON  [SABR Bio] is the most recent first baseman to lead the league in bases stolen. Jackie played first base in 1947 when he led the NL in SB with 29.  Every season leader since has played a different position. He homered in his final regular season game, on 30-Sep-1956.  Last game ever was G7 ’56 WS…He went hitless. He holds the Live Ball Era record for most career steals of home. Tied with Frankie Frisch with 19 all-time, good for 9th best on the career list. Some of Frisch’s were before the Modern Era.  Robinson had an additional very famous one in the 1955 WS.
