Sermon Notes

Sermon notes: Crawford Loritts guest preaching at JFBC on October 10.

One of the problems today with Christianity in America is that it’s mired in hyper individuality. We’ve forgotten that we’re members of the body of Christ. We don’t have the freedom to avoid being members of the body of Christ. He’s not saying anything about membership in a local church. Remember your past. We have a privileged place. Ephesians 2:11-21 is a reminder, a call to humility. Shouldn’t boast in a testimony about fighting God. Anyone who fights God is an idiot. constantly be aware of God’s grace and mercy. Before Christ, the Gentiles had no identity, no hope. Never get over the greatness and specialness of your salvation. Be afflicted with wonder. God himself is our peace. He kills all hostility, sin. We all achieved peace through the death of Jesus, who said on the cross “It is finished.”

2 Cor 5:16 now on we recognize

God made us all one.

Racial reconciliation 90% of conversations start off on the wrong foot. Jesus has already achieved this reconciliation, we just need to claim it. We’re not powerless. We are in Christ, the law has been fulfilled. We sometimes lack courage, and want to stay in a comfortable place.

We have a privileged position. We have access to the Father through the Holy Spirit. We have an all-access pass. The trinity is mentioned in this verse. There should be no barriers between people. We are transformed by Christ.

We represent the continuity of God’s plan. Not a backup plan.

Why did God do all this? v 21 in Him I am being built into a dwelling place for God,

Three implications
1. The church is about who we are, not just where we attend. Being a Christian and not going to church is like being married and not going home
2. How we relate to each other is be sharing the glories and overcoming sin
3. The church should be the portrait of the destination of where society should be heading.

CLIFF LEE  [B-R Bio] won the Cy Young Award one year after his teammate had won it, only to face that then ex-teammate in the first game of the World Series. Lee’s 2008 CYA followed CC Sabathia’s 2007 award. Sabathia became a Yankee in 2009 and lost to Lee in G 1 of the 2009 WS. The year Lee won his Cy Young Award. he finished ahead of three pitchers now in the Hall of Fame. Finishing behind him in CYA voting in 2008 were Roy Halladay, Mariano Rivera & Mike Mussina, among others. Lee won his first seven postseason starts for PHI and TEX in 2009 & 2010, including a CG W vs. NYY in the 2009 WS. Lee’s frequent five o’clock shadow helped to keep him from being mistaken for a high schooler Babyface/slight beard
