Birthday Weekend

Friday: left work right at five and hustled home to pick up Ceil. Our GPS directed us a less congested way up past Woodstock to Lake Allatoona to dinner with two couples. A fun evening. Pork tenderloin, salad, jello, and ice cream pie, plus Ceil had cooked scalloped potatoes au gratin.

As we were leaving I had to watch myself stepping down onto their front porch. As we were saying our goodbyes, Ceil stepped back against some potted plants. She lost her balance and fell backward off the front porch, falling about four feet down onto some bushes. Then a large potted plant fell off the porch on top of her. She wasn’t hurt, but was covered in dirt. By the time we had boosted her back onto the porch, we all couldn’t stop laughing. Ceil said she had loosened the roots, so they’d grow more. . “Oh no – the leftover potatoes!” I exclaimed, though fortunately the potatoes were secure as well.

Late Friday afternoon I learned I wouldn’t have to work inventory Saturday morning. Since Ceil already had plans to visit the baby, I went down to play golf. Got a new nickname, due to my performance on the 5th hole. When we got to the 6th tee I was going to let Robert tee off ahead of me, but he gave me the honors, quipping Go ahead, Par Boy!”

On the way home a got gas, breakfast at McDonalds, stopped by Dicks Sporting Goods, Kroger, and a thrift store. Almost home, I backtracked to The Battery, where the parking lots were jammed. I didn’t stay, but went on home. Watched Mizzou@UGA.

GT@Miami wasn’t broadcast on my TV. Did the dishes and laundry. My back was hurting from golfing in the cold. Watched several episodes of Jay Leno’s Garage. Guests included Tim Allen, Martha Stewart, Brad Garrett, and Kenny Paisley.

M baked a delicious blueberry cake. I had to make two more trips to Kroger, then picked up a takeout salad and pie from Pizzeria Lucca, Ceil’s favorite. Watched Clemson@Louisville.

Earlier MC had baked brownies.

Sunday School. C cooked a chicken and rice dish for lunch, plus steamed broccoli.

Later C went shopping. I did laundry and watched the Falcons. Then C went over to her friend’s house Sunday night to pray for a missionary. She left her phone there, so I had to go retrieve it, then take the dog out while Ceil got ready for bed. While I was gone Winnie chewed a hole in the middle of our rug, perhaps her worst behavour to date.

Steamed I had to work inventory Friday while others in another department (who clog up order lead-times and whose screwups I fix) partied at the Braves parade.

GEORGE FOSTER  [SABR Bio] was the first right-handed batter to hit more than thirty home runs in away games in a single season. In 1977, playing for the Reds, Foster hit 31 home runs from Riverfront Stadium. He added 21 at home to lead the majors with 52, well ahead of the 41 the Braves’ Jeff Burroughs hit. His last year in MLB was 1986 when he played 15 games for CHW where Steve Carlton was a starting pitcher. Foster was the last Alabama native to homer in an All-Star game for the National League. ASG HR = 1976 (at the 1:30 mark), 3rd inning, 13-Jul-1976He was the game’s MVP. Born in Tuscaloosa 01-Dec-1948. Foster played from 1989 to 1990 in the Senior Professional Baseball Association where he hit 11 home runs in 70 games for the St. Lucie Legends
