First Bite: Snookys

Friday night we ate at Snookys on the Water. Had to backtrack to the Cherry Grove main drag, then up and across the Intracoastal Waterway into Little River, then right off 17 to Snookys on the Water. The establishment was located on the Intracoastal, actually almost due west of our condo on the ocean.

I opted for the grilled chicken sandwich, with sweet potato waffle fries. The fries were only lukewarm when they arrived, though still tasty. Why I almost always eat my fries first. The sandwich was good.

Phil and Ted ordered shrimp po boys. Victoria ate crab cakes. We had a table of ten, with Teresa, Ceil, Rusty, Kelly, Jordan, Katherine, and me rounding out the party. A couple from the sixties provided live entertainment. Good stuff.

I never heard much Red Barber, didn’t like Mel Allen, and am usually partial to the Braves announcers, but Vin Scully was simply the GOAT baseball announcer. Scully aged like a fine wine, getting better and more graceful as the years passed by. An amazing career. A gentleman. He will be missed.

R.I.P. VIN SCULLY [SABR Bio] was the longest-tenured broadcaster with a single team in professional sports history, for the Brooklyn/LA Dodgers, 1950-2016). In one of the first games he broadcast, the Dodgers played an exhibition game against Connie Mack and the A's. Mack and Scully accounted for 130 continuous years of major league service. Connie Mack 1886-1950, Scully 1950-2016. Scully called three perfect games: Don Larsen's gem, Sandy Koufax's gem, and Dennis Martinez's gem. He broadcast Don Drysdale's 58-2/3-inning scoreless streak as well as Orel Hershiser's 59 scoreless innings to break Drysdale's record. Hershiser's record-setting inning. Among the most treasured calls in baseball history, his call of Hank Aaron's 715th home run stands out: “A black man is getting a standing ovation in the Deep South for breaking a record of an all-time baseball idol. It is a great moment for all of us and particularly for Henry Aaron. Aaron’s 715th Scully received the Ford C. Frick Award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, both in 1982. Frick Award speech; Star w/details. In 2016 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Freedom medal ceremonyHi, everybody, and a very pleasant good evening to you, wherever you may be.” Farewell, Vin,

DENISON: Brittney Griner was sentenced to nine years in prison, to make the trade for a hardened Russian criminal seem more palatable and “even”.

“Lee Joon-ho finally became a whale”… “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” whale scene edited by Netflix. The show is top ten in the entire world. I’m watching so many K-dramas that my dreams at night now have closed captions.
