R.I.P. Mike Leach

R.I.P. Mike Leach. Offensive genius. Coached at Valdosta State, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Washington State, and Mississippi State. Loved by the media. A curious soul. Asked lots of questions. Wrote a book about the military strategies of Geronimo. He wrote most of the book inside a coffee shop in Pullman WA. Cargo shorts.

While at Washington State he walked back and forth to work, sometimes a 55 minute journey with a leisurely stop at the coffee shop. Leach was two years younger than me. Scary. When it's your time, it's your time.

Discouraging to me to hear of all these people, young and old, “dying suddenly”.  The CDC quietly confirmed that at least 118,000 children and young adults “died suddenly” in the USA since the rollout of the covid vaccines. Not sure if the vaccine contributed to Mississippi State head coach Mike Leach’s massive heart attack or not.

Braves traded heavy hitting Contreras for one of the best catchers in baseball. Kid named Murphy. Oakland fans are disappointed. Again.

Elon Musk is fixing Twitter. Now if he can only get people to stop making stupid comments. And making the same comment that 50 other people had already said.

Monday: I worked like a dog until 5:30, then drove straight to small group. A review of I Thessalonians.

Lifted weights at the gym this morning. Busy again at work today. Would’ve been a good morning to play golf, but I had too much on my plate. It’ll be too cold and rainy the rest of the week. Plus I’m the only team member in the office today so I’m having to chase things down for everyone working from home. Usually I’ve been working from home on Wednesdays, but tomorrow I’ll need to come into the office because of all the work.

Did you know: actor Tom Selleck played basketball for Southern Cal? He was number 42.

I am eating pecans today myself. Got home last night and Ceil had bought a big bag of pecans at Costco. Also almonds.

We get a few prepackaged cookies here at work for Christmas, loaded with preservatives. But I found some chocolate covered oreos that were delicious. Friday night we have to take a dessert to a Christmas party. C is getting M to make something. Friday we’re supposed to have a bake off at work. Pies, cakes, cookies, etc.

John Flack is in Rome with his 15 year old daughter.

CAL RIPKEN [SABR Bio] was the first AL shortstop to win more than one Most Valuable Player award. Ernie Banks did it in the National League. Ripken won AL MPVs in 1983 and 1991. Shortstop Robin Yount was AL MVP in 1982 and won it again, but was a centerfielder in 1989. Ripken was the last 20th century AL player to collect six hits in one game, on 13-Jun-1999. Cal was the first AL player to have 650 at-bats in a season without stealing a single base. In 1993 he had 663 AB. Don Mattingly, J.J. Hardy & Robinson Cano have duplicated the feat since then.

DENISON: a restaurant in Virginia canceled a Christian group’s reservation because of the group’s biblical beliefs. Protesters disrupted a pro-life banquet for a pregnancy resource center. The University of Idaho agreed to pay $90,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by three Christian students who had been censored for their biblical beliefs regarding marriage.

Jesus taught us, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

Micah 6:8: He has told you, Oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.

Jesus said in John 3:20: “For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works be exposed”.
