The Moon-Eyed People

New bucket list item: check out the moon eyed people carved into rock formations at Fort Mountain State Park, between Elijay and Dalton. Are the Europeans, or are they aliens? Can swing by Buccees on the way back.

Man I have been on the go. Left work at 3:36 pm Wednesday. Stopped by Taco Bell for a late lunch / early supper. Drove home to switch cars. Made it to Sandy Springs by 5 pm to pick up Brad. Then to Peachtree Corners by 5:45 to pick up Eddie. Then up 400 north of Cumming for Hot Stove. Made it by 6:55. Over 3 hours in the car. Traffic bad the entire route.

Left Johnny’s at 9:15 and retraced my steps. Made it home by 11 pm. Had to take out the trash.

Thursday: up early to run at the gym. Made it to work a little early. My 5:30 focus group was a discussion on South Walton Florida: 30A / Seaside / Rosemary Beach / Ali’s Beach, Seagrove etc. Beautiful area, though I have mixed feelings about the place. Seemed like the actual area putting on the research were attractions about 45 minutes away, though little of the discussion was about those areas.

My 7:30 focus group was cancelled, put I’m still getting paid. Made it home by eight. Watched So What About Todd and Young Sheldon. Followed some basketball games on my phone.

Friday: lifted weights at the gym this morning. Gave Reid a plant tour.

The top QB recruit in the country has scheduled visits to UGA, USC, Nebraska, Oregon – and Georgia Tech. Since 2000, the Jackets have signed only one 5-star recruit: Calvin Johnson. Tech have not signed a single quarterback ranking in the top 100 prospects nationally during that span.

Hung out with Sandy Springs author / writer Bradsher Hayes a few nights ago. He’s a part of a writer’s group. Every week they submit something they’ve written to the group, then they meet and discuss, offering suggestions for improvement. Sounds like something I should do when I retire.

Yesterday I wrote a one thousand word essay about anxiety. My golfing friend has taken leave of his job because of anxiety. I wish I had more time to pour over and polish the words that I wrote. As usual, I barely have time to type out what I’m thinking, and maybe proofread once. Would be nice to be able to pour over and perfect every paragraph, and continue to edit and reorganize.

BILL MADLOCK   [SABR Bio] played for DET in 1987, the final 87 games of his playing career. Madlock’s NL batting crown in 1975 was 22 points above Ted Simmons’ .332 and 27 more than Joe Morgan’s .327. The next year, he bested all major leaguers, including George Brett by 5 points and Rod Carew by 8. Again the MLB top in 1981, his .341 outshone Rickey Henderson and Mike Schmidt. Finally, in 1983, his .323 was the NL’s top mark. Madlock wasn’t on the Pirates when they called “The Lumber Company” in the early 1970s, but he came to the team in 1979 and helped them win their second World Series of the decade. That Pirates team told the world, “We Are Family”. At Eisenhower High in Decatur, Illinois, he played basketball, football &baseball.  He received 150 scholarship offers basketball and one hundred in football, and two for baseball. He chose Southeastern Community College in Keokuk, Iowa. He said he preferred playing a less hazardous game.

DENISON: …something that must continually be normalized is, by definition, not normal. Otherwise, it would not need to be continually normalized… As we noted earlier this week, those who do not like a message are prone to attack the messenger… The greatest benefit the Christian religion offers society is not a religion about God but a relationship with him. I believe if more secular people understood this fact, they would view Christianity very differently...

I responded to Denison’s post, sending him the link to a recent related Uni Watch article about the NHL. Interesting, revealing, and educational to read the public’s responses to news like this.
