Braves 3 American League 2

Some folk were watching the All Star Game there at The Battery last night. Went home and turned on the game while playing on my laptop.

The Braves had all four infielders in the game at the same time, for at least an inning. Riley hit a double and made two good plays in the field. Murphy gunned out a base stealer, the tag applied my Arcia. Smoltz had good things to say about Albies.

Freddie Freeman had nice things to say about Acuna. Did not know about any "organizational rules" though I'm sure Snit has carried on what Bobby Cox had established. The Braves aren't the only team with rules – just look at the Yankees.

Forty years ago Dale Murphy was winning his second MVP, joining the elite 30 HR 30 SB club. While manager Bobby Cox gave Dale his first MLB opportunity, it was Murphy's second manager Joe Torre who really helped Murphy blossom as a hitter. Torre gave Murphy the green light to steal whenever he wished.

FERGIE JENKINS   [SABR Bio] is the only pitcher to give up 200 home runs in the American League and 200 in the National League. Surrendered 273 HR in the NL and 211 in the AL. He struck out all three Alou brothers: Felipe nine times, Matty 14, and Jesus five times. He also surrendered home runs to all three, the only pitcher to do that. Jenkins lifetime strikeouts = 3,192; career walks only 997.

Today the "Pro Football" Hall of Fame released a list of about 80 "senior" players, coaches, and contributors for possible induction. Carl Banks. Ken Anderson. Billy White Shoes. Nobis. George Kunz. In the past Herschel had made this list. Not this year.

I left work after 12 noon Monday. Drove nonstop to Covington, where I stopped for drinks and ice cream. I hadn't brought my golf clubs so I stopped at an Augusta thrift store to buy a 9 iron.

Ate at Logans with coworker Brad. Not my first choice, but several other dinner options were closed on Monday. My burger was good, but the string onions things I'd ordered weren't. After eating I went to a nearby driving range and hit 120 balls. Mostly good. Hit some long as well as lots of chip shots. Was super sweaty afterward. Got back to the hotel at 8:30.

Turned on the home run derby but later flipped over to a movie. The "film" had achieved tremendous box office success, but was terrible. Later I watched an episode of Friends. Just stuff to have on the TV while I played on my laptop.

Picked up Chickfila biscuits for the guys. For me I got a chicken bacon egg and cheese biscuit. Pretty good. Took inventory with the guys.

For lunch we all went to a nearby Mexican restaurant. I had fajitas. On the drive back I stopped for ice cream, thinking it would be my supper since C would be at her ministry. Got home at 4 pm, ahead of most of the traffic, but there were some crazies out on 285. One Toyota almost plowed into me changing lanes.

Got home and took a nap, but's C's brother was in the area so he stopped by. C came home and we ate at Wahlburgers in The Battery. A good burger. Not huge but not small.

Up early this morning to play golf. They've finally mowed the fairways, but I still lost several balls in the high rough (and woods). Some good shots, some bad. Several good chips and approach shots, and a few good putts.

More crazy drivers on the way to work.

Interesting comments from Jon Rahm about seeking advice from Tiger, though not really surprising.

A dangerous TikTok trend has claimed 4 lives in 6 months in Alabama. One husband died while his wife was videoing him jumping off a speeding boat, in front of their kids.

DENISON: a Gallup survey released yesterday: Americans' confidence in higher education has fallen to 36%, sharply lower than in 2015 (57%) and 2018 (48%). Low faith in US institutions continues. Partisan examples abound. As I noted yesterday, many cultural leaders are convinced that biblical morality is outdated, irrelevant, and dangerous for society. A  key advisor for the United Nations claimed in a report that "discriminatory positions of prejudice" are not protected by religious freedom rights.
