Caitlin Clark Breaks Record

Caitlin Clark’s record breaking bucket was no easy shot – a three pointer from downtown, well behind the three point line. The next record for her to break is Pete Maravich’s all-time scoring record – a mark that’s stood for over 50 years. I think most people understand Maravich only played the three years, without a three point line. Seems like Caitlin should be able to do just fine in the WNBA (and overseas), though I am no expert. Too bad Clark wasn’t named to the 2024 Olympic team, which is comprised of WNBA players.

Speaking of marks, Mark Price just turned 60 years old.

Tiger has never won that tournament. Guess he is wearing his new TaylorMade gear. I couldn’t get into last weekend’s tourney in Phoenix. I usually can. Watched a little bit.

SPOILER: it appears Big George Cooper will indeed pass away before the series finale of Young Sheldon this May. Season premiere tonight, along with Ceil’s favorite, So Help Me Todd. On CBS.

Had worked my way down to one email in my in box on Feb 2, but currently at 18 after most of the day in the 20’s. A couple are reminder emails I was able to finally delete. Finished the week at 17 emails. Could be worse. Never ends (until retirement).

ORLANDO CEPEDA  [SABR Bio] was the first player to win the American League award for designated hitters. Now named the Edgar Martinez Award, it was first given in 1973 to BOS DH Cepeda in his only year with the team. This in spite of an inauspicious debut as he went 0 for 6 in his first game at DH on 06-Apr-1973 while his teammates amassed 20 hits. He is the first player to win the Rookie of the Year Award for a team that had just moved cities. Cepeda was the 1958 ROY for SFG who only the year before had been NYG. He and Hank Aaron both hit home runs in the same game where another Hall of Famer hit four. On 20-Apr-1961 in Milwaukee, Willie Mays homered 4 times, Cepeda once, Braves star Aaron went deep two times. Eight of the Giants' hits that day were home runs.
