Patrick Mahomes: GOAT ?

Patrick Mahomes just won his third Super Bowl. Does that make him the greatest QB in NFL history? No. Tom Brady won seven. Terry Bradshaw won four. So did Joe Montana. Bart Starr won three straight championships. Otto Graham quarterbacked the Browns to ten straight championship games, winning 5 straight.

7 Otto Graham: 5 straight + 2 straight

7 Tom Brady: 2 straight

5 Bart Starr: won 3 straight + 2 straight

4 Terry Bradshaw: 2 straight, twice

4 Joe Montana: 2 straight

4 Sid Luckman: 2 straight (& 3 of 4)

3 Johnny Unitas: 2 straight

3 Patrick Mahomes

And this is just talking about QB’s who won multiple championships. Many would argue other great HOF QB’s, like Staubach, Marino, Elway, Peyton, Eli, Sammy Baugh, Norm Van Brocklin, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Kelly, etc. rank ahead of young Mahomes. Remember when Joe Burrow was Le QB du jour? Heck some would argue that Len Dawson might rank ahead of Mahomes as the greatest Chiefs QB of all time.

Patrick still has a bit of a hill to climb. We’ll see how he holds up when Andy Reid retires, and Bienemy and Spagnola jump ship, when Kelse wears down and Butker starts missing. When Taylor Swift finds a new boy toy.

Speaking of Miss Swift, I really didn’t think they showed her as much as they could have. Kelse did have a big game. It’s not like they didn’t show Beyonce and LeBron and SpongeBob, and lots of other celebs trying to steal Taylor’s spotlight. None seemed to be having as much fun as Taylor. Did they show Roger Goodell? Maybe he was trying to keep a low profile. Taylor Swift does have the luxury box spotlight down, with costume changes and backup dancers to hug.

I was hoping Taylor would talk Travis out of wearing his yellow Super Bowl shoes. The big burley tight end wore yellow shoes four years ago. Not a good look for the big guy. Guess I can’t say anything. I use to have a pair of yellow Reebok Furys, though I rarely wore them out in public.

Nothing like the Super Bowl halftime and commercials to confirm just how much I am out of touch with pop culture. Embarrassing when Usher came out at halftime wearing the sleeveless shirt with the big broach, and later roller skates – the same outfit I was wearing last night.

I was kinda surprised that everyone at our party was pulling for SF. The only reason to not pull for SF was their coach Shanahan, whose poor play calling blew the Super Bowl for the Falcons against the Chiefs. Shanahan since has lost two more Super Bowls: last night and four years ago.

DENISON: Paul Bond has a great article up at Newsweek that profiles several of the athletes as well as the efforts of groups like He Gets Us to once again use the Super Bowl as a platform for sharing the gospel. They include: Brock Purdy, QB for the 49ers. In a recent interview with Hall of Fame QB Steve Young, Brock Purdy discussed the role of faith in his life and the impact it’s had on his career.

Harrison Butker, kicker for the Chiefs. But, as he told Sports Spectrum: “If I didn’t have faith in God, I don’t think I’d be the father I am, the husband I am, the kicker I am. That kind of sets the tone for everything else". Also articles about the faith of SF RB Christian McCaffrey, the legacy of devotion in Arik Armstead. the public witness of QB Patrick Mahomes, and the servant leadership of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt.
