People Watchin

I love to watch people at restaurants and other places. Houstons is a great place to people watch because it is so crowded. Lots of Buckhead types. I am always looking for SPdL people and GT people but rarely see anyone I know. Yes interesting to see if any other couples besides us say a blessing before their meal. I do try to see what others are eating and drinking (Ceil loves to do this as well). Seems like not as many people are drinking soft drinks these days. I’m not keen on the little Coke bottles they serve at Houstons.

I am looking at what people are wearing, clothes and shoes. On their website Houstons makes a huge deal about the strict dress code they have, but then when you get there people are wearing all sorts of things that violate the dress code. Couple years ago there was a big deal in the news about some “celebrity” that got kicked out of a restaurant near Perimeter Mall for violating the “no sweats” dress code, wearing a “track suit” that cost several hundred dollars. Houstons is a relatively pricey restaurant (seems like they all are these days) but I see young couples eating there on weeknights, like on dates.

Steak Shapiro is a radio personality with a local TV show called “Atlanta Eats”, where he goes around hobnobbing with chefs, showing off restuarants. Big burger guy. Always eating out somewhere. Last night he was at the Hawks home opener. He says Houstons is too crowded for him, that he can’t get in to be seated. We always make reservations several days in advance, and usually don’t have much of a wait. Hope I don’t jinx myself for tonight. Once we agreed to sit at a table in the bar area. Big mistake. Lots of people watching because the bar was so crowded, but slower service. Too loud.

When you say “middle aged” – what age range is that? Once I called myself middle aged and Ricky Glover wondered if I wasn’t past middle age. Guess he was right, huh?

00-30 youth / 31-60 middle age / 61 & up old age. Ugh.

I saw that play where Ja drove the lane and dunked, after putting a move on the guy guarding him.

Most of those Sketchers slip-ins shoes look pretty good. I just don't like that darn Sketchers logo on them.

Wednesday: lunch was pasta and salad at work left over from a meeting. I sit near Renee who coordinates the meals, and she usually hooks me up. Worked until almost 530. On the way to small group Ceil called, saying she had spaghetti on the stove. I stopped by home and gobbled it down. Got a late start on the meeting, and didn’t finish until 915. Leader Dan can dig down deep into the scriptures unlike few that I know. He’s a spiritual machine.

Thursday: up early to go to the gym. Busy at work. Started an email at 8 am then got busy and am just now finishing it up at 11 am. Leftover salad and potato salad for lunch.

EARLY WYNN [SABR Bio] surrendered more home runs to Mickey Mantle than any other pitcher – 13, from 15-Jul-1952 to 13-Jul-1961. Wynn was only the second ever pitcher to win the Cy Young Award the same season he led the league in bases-on-balls, in 1959. He led the majors in BB allowed with 119. Only Bob Turley had done it before him, with 123 BB in 1958. Wynn made his debut the year Lou Gehrig retired and played his final season when Pete Rose was called up. His career lasted from 1939 in Washington to 1963 in Cleveland.

DENISON: legislating morality is essential to a functioning society, or we cannot have speed limits and prohibitions against murder. But it doesn’t necessarily make us more moral. For example, despite laws against sex trafficking, prostitution, and abusing the elderly and those with disabilities. Former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO has been arrested on sex trafficking and interstate prostitution charges. Popular culture is continuing to normalize prostitution, euphemistically calling it “sex work.”
