Career High

Will scored a career high 8 points yesterday afternoon, and his Flight JV team beat the young Bridgeway team 42 – 8. Earlier the Flight Girls JV won their game 49 – 1 (In contrast, Kansas State recently outscored Savannah State 46 - 4 in the second half).

I left work early and drove to Alpharetta in plenty of time for the 4:45 start, but walked in as the first quarter was ending. The girls game had ended early, so the boys started shortly afterwards. Both Flight coaches couldn’t make the game, so Josh’s dad, a long-time Flight board-member, filled in. He divided the ten Flight boys into two not quite equal teams, and let each play half the game.

Flight controlled the opening tip and the ball was passed to Will. He didn’t want to run the point, so he signaled for Isaac to come back and get the ball. Isaac brought the ball upcourt and passed inside to Will, who made a short shot for the first points of the game. Will made another lay-up late in the first quarter. In the second quarter Will made a short jumper and a third lay-up. He finished the game shooting a perfect 4 – 4, and was the team’s second-leading scorer.

Besides speedy little Isaac, Will played with Holt and Joel. Isaac scored one basket, grabbed a rebound, and had a steal. Holt scored six points and had 3 rebounds.

The first half ended with a 16 – 7 score. The second half team featured the top three Flight players. Jonathan was his aggressive self, stealing the ball 6 times and scoring 4 points. Max also had 6 steals to go with 2 rebounds. Kevin added 10 points and 3 boards. Connor ran the offense and scored seven. Big man Josh scored an inside basket, then was encouraged to shoot a 3-pointer. He made his second attempt.

After the game I took Will and Joel to get haircuts.
Saturday all six Flight teams play arch-rival Crown.
