Crown Coasts 16-0

Will’s Crown baseball team coasted to an easy win this past Saturday, beating a young Sandy Plains team. He was the only player on either team to reach base safely three times. He had a single, triple, and a walk, stole a base, and scored three runs.

In the bottom of the first Will drove in the first run of the game, smacking a line drive single to center. He advanced to second on the throw home, then scored from second on Tanner’s single to left.

In the third Will looked at four straight pitches far out of the strike zone, then stole second. He tagged up and advanced to third on Silas’ fly ball to right. Will scored on Ryan’s grounder to short.

After Nathan tripled down the rightfield line in the fourth, Will lined a 3-2 pitch over the centerfielder’s head. The Mt. Paran fences had recently been moved back, and Will’s drive reached the fence on the bounce. Will scampered around the bases and flew into third with a signature Pete Rose-like airborne, headfirst slide. He scored when the catcher’s pick-off throw sailed into rightfield.

Will played shortstop in three of the four innings, but no balls were hit his way.

Charlie pitched a complete game shutout, which was secured when a Sandy Plains runner tried to score standing up. The throw home arrived just in time, and the catcher hardly had to move his mitt to tag out the runner. Had he slid, he would’ve been safe.

For the second time ever, Will’s game was played immediately after Matthew’s, on the same field.
