#1 UGA Rolls, Now 9-0

On the drive home from the funeral Ceil was watching the Clemson game. On the radio I was flipping back and forth between Tech (AM) and Georgia (FM). GT and UGA ended before we got home, but we arrived in time to see the last few minutes of Clemson.

Ohio State gets throttled by Iowa 55-24. JT Barrett’s four interceptions doused his Heisman hopes. Mighty Notre Dame gave up a lot of points to Wake Forest, but they are still loved.
Michigan State edges Penn State 27-24. Nice celebration by kicker Matt Coghlin, but not as good as Michael Geiger's celebration when he beat Ohio State last year. Loss number two hurts the Heisman chances of Saquon Barkley. Penn State coach James Franklin has to chase a player down to get him to shake hands with the victors.
Baker Mayfield throws for 596 yards and 5 touchdowns against the #11 team in the country (and rushed for another TD). Many now call him the Heisman frontrunner. Oklahoma State had only given up six touchdown passes all year. No defense in that game: 62-52.

Clemson edges a tough NC State team. Jesse Palmer may be right: With a common opponent, Notre Dame looks better than Clemson, beating the Wolfpack more convincingly. Also the Irish’s loss to number one UGA is better than Clemson’s loss to Syracuse. But should Clemson win out, beating FSU and either Miami or Virginia Tech, perhaps they can edge Wisconsin and Oklahoma for a place in the playoff.
NC State defensive lineman Chubb (Nick’s cousin) looked like a thug, stealing QB Kelly Bryant's towel several times after the whistle. Isn't that a penalty? USA Today thought it clever. Might've been had NC State won.

UGA could’ve beaten South Carolina worse. The Gamecocks had to pull out all the stops just to stay relatively close, like the fake punt. SC also had luck on their side, benifitting from several overturned calls, defensive holding on the fake punt, and two dropped interceptions – at least one would’ve been a sure pick six. Add Godwin’s fumble near the goal line and the score could have easily been 38-10.

Sometimes the ball bounces your way, sometimes it doesn’t. The Dawgs didn’t need any breaks – they still won convincingly. Chubb and Michel rushed for more than 180 yards. QB Jake Fromm showed South Carolina that he could indeed pass, throwing for 196 yards and two touchdowns (including the sweet tightrope catch above) - and threw the block that sprang Michel for a touchdown (below).

Both Will and Anna were at Sanford Stadium for the game. Cousin Jordan spent the night.

Auburn traveled to Texas and beat the Aggies 42-27. Better they win the week before the Georgia game.

Florida got beat by Missouri. 45-16. They’ll probably lose next week at South Carolina.

Undefeated Miami looked bad last week, but played an impressive game against Virginia Tech.
Another Tech loss, not entirely unexpected. Hopefully they'll beat Duke - perhaps the only winnable game remaining on the schedule.
