This weekend we watched Larry Crowne, the Tom Hanks/Julia Roberts romantic comedy. Rivals You’ve Got Mail on the greatest movies list. Hank’s Larry is more likable than Mail’s Joe Fox.
The surrounding characters in Crowne are more fun than in Mail – Mr. M, the moped gang, neighbor Cedric the Entertainer, the college classmates like Academy Award winner Rami Malek. But Mail’s Meg Ryan is more likable than Roberts, though Julia’s critical college professor falls hard for Larry.
Noticed Hanks’ wife Rita Wilson playing a small role in Crowne. She was also in Sleepless in Seattle and a few other Hanks movies. Also The Brady Bunch and MASH. Who knew.
Friday night M and C cooked salmon with vegetables. M cooked me chicken in his whiskey BBQ sauce. M made some delicious chocolate covered caramel peanut butter hazelnut balls.
We watched a little golf on Friday, more on Saturday, and several hours of Sunday’s final round. Was keeping up with ACC and SEC basketball, and a few others. Also watched a good chunk of Saturday’s Hawks game. Celtics were wearing road green at home for St. Patrick’s Day.
Saturday AM small group, then some housework. Made rice and vegetable quesadillas out of leftovers for lunch. Cleaned out the fridge, did laundry, and hung up clothes while watching the Hawks, golf, and Teen Wolf, a movie I’d never watched.
Anna came home from Athens. She and Ceil went to the art store, grocery, Bellwood Coffee, and the Westside. M worked but made it home for dinner: baked chicken, potatoes, and salad. After supper Anna went back to Athens. Ceil was busy so I watched The Hunt for Red October. Interestingly, actor James Hampton had supporting roles in both Teen Wolf and Red October.
Left out at 8 am to watch Will run the Publix Marathon. Picked up MC and drove down near Tech. W had already finished 13 miles before we saw him near the Coke tower (1). Then we drove down the Clark Atlanta and saw him just west of the Mercedes Benz Stadium (2) Then across 75/85 from Turner Field, where Will quickly pulled off his long sleeve shirt (3) Next sighting was just south of Turner Field (4). It was 10 am and people were starting to arrive for the 4 pm Legends game. MC and Ceil wanted to make sure they were at Centennial Park to see Will finish (6). I dropped them off at State Farm Arena, where people were arriving for the 4 pm Atlanta United soccer game. I parked a block south of Mercedes Benz and walked the mile over to Georgia State, to see Will run through there (5).
Will did well, running the second 13 miles faster than the first, finishing 303rd out of over 1600, 247th among the men. Afterwards we ate at the Willy’s on Howell Mill, near their apartment. Got a special burrito with pork, slaw, and “Alabama sauce.” Definitely on the spicy side. Should gotten a smaller burrito or bowl, but I wasn’t pouring over the menu before I ordered.
Sunday morning we missed church to follow Will. Later I saw where Julie Adair was at JFBC with her parents. She saw Sherri Hall Lewis. I never see Sherri and David Lewis, but they’re usually there.
Went home and crashed on the couch. C took a nap during the golf while I edited marathon pictures. Later she cooked grits and eggs for supper. Watched replays of Schooled and Whiskey Tango.

Speaking of the Legends, they lost another game yesterday. But going into yesterday’s game they didn’t have the worst record in the league. That distinction belonged to Memphis. So when the disgraced Johnny Manzeil signed with the league, to Memphis he went. Gives them a star to help sell tickets. As much as I like Aaron Murray, getting Manzeil would’ve been a boon.
On social media I see the Legends doing a lot of dancing, but not much playing football. Now they’re turning flips in the old Braves locker room. I’m sure Bobby Dews is turning over in his grave.
Several stories about finding Zion Williamson the right shoes to wear. Sounds like he needs to wear a new pair in every game, like Michael Jordan did. A couple of negative stories about LeBron this weekend: first his game-winning shot gets blocked, then a report comes out that he’s not a good teammate.
