Condemnation or Forgiveness?

In my life I know too many people who think others should be punished for their mistakes – while oftentimes remaining oblivious to their own. Monday night in small group we studied John 8:2-11. Jesus’ words in verse 7 are often remembered, but what he says in verse 11 is the most powerful.

2. Early in the morning Jesus came again to the temple.

All the people came to Him, and He sat down and taught them.

3. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman

who had been caught in adultery,

and placing her in the midst they said to Him,

4. “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.

5. Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women.

So what do you say?”

6. They said this to test Him,

that they might have some charge to bring against Him.

Jesus bent down and wrote with His finger on the ground.

7. And as they continued to ask Him, He stood up and said to them,

“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”

8. And once more He bent down and wrote on the ground.

9. But when they heard it, they went away one by one,

beginning with the older ones,

and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before Him.

10. Jesus stood up and said to her,

“Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?

11. She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said,

“Neither do I condemn you; go, and sin no more.”

The salt that has lost its savor: the woke church and the undoing of America. Excellent article.

David Letterman’s top ten sports moments. Can’t believe it doesn’t include (1) Jets QB Vinnie Testaverde throwing footballs at a meatball on the top of the Christmas tree, which turned into an annual tradition with actor Jay Thomas, or (2) Michael Jordan talking about the shoes banned by the NBA for not being white.

10. KC Royal Buddy Biancalana

9. Steve Nash reporting on the NBA Finals

8. The Marv Albert Achievement awards

7. Terry Forster eating a Letterman sandwich, made with tongue.

6. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson

5. Joe Niekro after his emery board suspension.

4. Will Ferrell imitating Harry Caray

3. Letterman spitting with Yankee manager Buck Showalter

2. Letterman’s mom’s reports from the Olympics

1. Biff Henderson reports from the World Series
