Braves: Looking Good

Braves return home from a winning road trip. Young third baseman Austin Riley is hot, third on the team in on base percentage behind Acuna and Freddie. Riley reached base four times last night, going 2-2 with a homer and two walks. He’s playing good defense as well. Albies was back in the lineup. Starters Ian Anderson, Bryce Wilson, and Charlie Morton pitched well in these last three games. Reliever Minter got them out of a jam.

Wednesday: worked until 5:30. Then learned Anna was at the house. I drove straight home. Anna stayed for dinner: baked chicken, tossed salad, baked mixed vegetables (small potatoes, sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts, & carrots).

Anna had a date, to a place in downtown Roswell. The young man used to work with her at High Country. He picked up Anna at our house. Later I wanted to make sure Anna came inside to say goodbye to us, so I texted “y’all come inside before you go.” Anna must’ve laughed, and told the guy what I’d said. So he came inside, and I got to meet him. Seemed nice. Ceil missed out, as she had already gone to bed.

It’s always a prayer and concern of Christian parents who their child will marry. Anna has always had high standards, and the young men she’s chosen to date have always been high caliber. Speaking of, Margaret Hurt is dating a fine young man she’d met in high school, when she and Haley were at Living Science with the Murphy and Norman kids.

Matthew is busy these days. His prep cook job at Flower Child will be starting soon. In preparation, this weekend he’s working at a gluten free bakery. Yesterday he was working with Joel and Charles Norman at their Bellwood Coffee, which will be opening a second location soon at Ponce City Market.

MICKEY LOLICH  [SABR Bio] his record for most career strikeouts by a left-handed American League pitcher was broken by CC Sabathia. Lolich ended with 2,679 L Ks. Sabathia passed that with his 2,680th in 2017. Sabathia retired with 2,965 AL Ks. With no score in the sixth inning of a World Series Game Seven, he picked off two runners at first base. In the 1968 WS, Lolich nabbed Cardinal speedsters Lou Brock and Curt Flood to thwart a rally and keep the game scoreless. The Tigers broke the tie in the very next inning (against the formidable Bob Gibson in his last WS start) en route to a WS championship.
