Unwritten Rules

Yes, I said I quit reading Uni Watch. But today's topic piqued my interest: baseball's unwritten rules. The way Paul started his column, it appeared he would be siding with all the youngsters telling us old traditionalists to take a hike. Instead Paul dug deep to show how some of these unwritten rules trace back to the Ten Commandments, the Golden Rule, and the Seven Deadly Sins. I'm still waiting to see a video of a bat-flipper accidentally injuring someone with a wayward flipped bat (and getting tossed by a stogey old-school umpire)..

Friday night's Braves-Pirates game got so out of hand that Ronald Acuña wanted to hit left-handed. Why did the coaches say no? It wasn't just Snit. Not only would it have broken one of baseball's unwritten rules, more importantly Acuna could've gotten hurt. The one time Jose Canseco went in to pitch, he hurt himself.

JOSE CANSECO  [SABR Bio] is the most recent player to be a major league teammate with his twin brother, on OAK in 1990 with twin Ozzie. David Wells described him as being able to hula hoop in a Cheerio. In his autobiography, Wells described facing Canseco in the minors.  When he saw him later, he was surprised at the physical change and wondered what Canseco was eating. He's probably the only player who wants to be given an error. Has said many times that the ball that bounced off his head should be scored as an error for him, not a solo HR for CLE's DH Carlos Martinez. The winning difference in the game was one run.

People love to hate them some Tim Tebow. Why? What wrong did he ever do? If a guy wants to play baseball, why can't he? If a coach wants him on his team, what's wrong with that? Why not hate on the team, who signed him as an obvious publicity stunt? Tebow may not be my favorite player, but how could I speak badly of him? He's the second-greater college football player ever, behind you know who. If nothing Tebow is an encourager and leader. Always hustles. Gives it his all. Builds up, doesn't tear down. Can the same be said of Colin Kaepernick or Terrell Owens?  Maybe Urban Meyer wants to take the spotlight off Trevor Lawrence.

UFOs are real but might not be aliens — and that's somehow more terrifying.

Denison: a different take on UFO's: John Stonestreet notes, "The universe we live in has properties one would expect if it were, in fact, designed by a God who had us in mind when he made the place." John points to the work of Cambridge-educated philosopher of science Stephen Meyer and others. They demonstrate scientifically that gravity, electromagnetism, nuclear forces, and other laws are precisely calibrated to make life possible. A naturalistic worldview simply cannot explain the fine-tuned nature of the universe we inhabit.

Monday: worked from before 7:45 am past 5:30 pm. Drove straight home to see C and the pup.

Winnie was happy to see me. We went outside and played while C watered the flowers Winnie loves the water. Later C went to Trader Joes and I took her outside again. Ceil says Winny, I say Winnie. When C came to bed she closed the bedroom door. I think Winnie started in the bathroom on the tile, then later slept next to C's side of the bed. Made no fuss. The first time I woke up I didn't see her anywhere. At 5:30 I got up and looked in the bathroom for Winnie, and she came to me from C's side of the bed. I went back to sleep for another hour with Winnie on the bed, laying near my feet quietly. This morning C went to the Y, and Winnie was happy in her crate. Later C took her to the vet for the first time.

Supper was spaghetti and broccoli. Played on my laptop, but only half as much as usual. I went to be early. Tired.

Might pick up another pizza for supper. We'll see. Our office won a sales award, and everyone received restaurant gift certificates. A choice between things like Uber Eats and Dominos of Pizza Hut. I thought it was only ten dollars so I chose Dominos. When it came it was for $25.00. I can probably get three or four pizzas. I like the thin crispy crust.

Austin Riley was named NL player of the week.

Seems like the longer the Falcons hold on to Julio Jones, the less they will be able to get in trade for him. But I don't think they can trade him until June. I say trade him. He's great, but gets hurt so much. The team can use the cap space. Plus they have several good receivers, including that top draft pick.
