Wild Card Team Loses Again

I’ve stayed up late the last two nights. Worn my lucky Braves Radio watch and held onto my lucky Braves program for most of the last four Braves wins. Was concerned when Snit pulled Max and Ian so early, but he’s been managing longer than me. Hopefully Charlie can pitch deep into game three Tuesday night. Nice to not let Scherzer beat them, and to get to the LA bullpen and closer as well. The Braves take the first two games with almost zero contribution from Freddie Freeman.

The Braves have set themselves up for a successful 2022 season. Rosario can also play infield. Pederson may be a little on the crazy side for the Braves tastes, though the fans love him and the Team Store is selling twenty-five cent fake pearl beads for five bucks.

That’ll pay Joc’s salary right there. Solar once hit 49 home runs in one season. Ozuna probably will not return. Duvall led the league in RBI. Camargoat led the International League in hitting. Drew Waters had a great year in Gwinnett. Pache made the postseason roster. That’s plenty until Acuna returns.

TBS keeps showing the fans chopping, but the announcers haven’t mentioned it much. There’s a bit of a buzz about it on social media. Should the Braves advance to the World Series, I’m sure it will be a sore subject. Glad to see Braves Nation pushing back hard against anti-Atlanta bias.

Speaking of the tomahawk chop, Joel Norman’s wedding reception was Friday night. Joel hopped up on the stage, doned a Braves jersey, and led the gathering in the chop. Bad traffic getting down to the Park Tavern in Piedmont Park, at the corner of Monroe and Tenth. Saw Ashley and Diane Corbett and David and Mary Hurt. All the Normans were there except Spencer. David Norman danced with his young daughter. Met Willis’ new bride. A good band played all night, for hours.

I complimented a staff member from Joel’s church (Trinity, now Oglethorpe) who’d learned the salty dog rag at Dartmouth. That’s a dance I used to do at Tech. The father of bride had deep Southern accent, gave the prayer, and supplied the small pies for dessert. The food was great: small burgers & BBQ sandwiches, tater tots, lots of hors d’oeurves, roast beef, shrimp, and other fancier foods.

Will and Joel’s high school basketball coach Craig Hoffer was there. His wife Cathy called me her Goodreads reading buddy. We both get emails with updates about we’re reading, along with other people we’re connected to, like Connie Morris and Catherine Norman. Cathy said she looks at what I’m reading for suggestions for what her husband should read at the beach. Their son DJ the basketball marvel was there, along with several from the basketball team: Kara came down from Nashville, Kathleen House, and Danielle. Also Josiah, wife Nikki, and their two young daughters. Good to see Kevin Brock, and meet his lovely girlfriend Caitlin. Saw MC’s old boss Mark and our old friend Gina Pickett. Stayed past 10 pm.

Up early for golf at sunrise. Saw a rainbow. Played well, but as usual tired toward the end. Had the best drive on several holes. Made a par on hole four. Hole by hole:

1. Six iron off tee down the middle stops six inches before rough ends then flub out of high grass Good six iron to hill before green Chip over green Good chip.

2. Six iron off tee. Short chip. Good chip. We pause to take in the double rainbow to the west.

3. Six iron off tee. Bad chip then good chip. Lip out putt.

4. Nine wood off tee rolls onto green then 2 putt for par

5. Nine wood off tee drifted right. Bad chip then better chip. Decent lag putt. For the second straight week on the sixth tee we stopped to look at the exotic spider who’d spun a web in a wooded area.

6. Second tee shot (driver) was decent. Not the best 5 iron. Decent 6 iron. Good 8 iron slowed by standing water then good lag putt. Tons of acorns underneath the huge oak.

On the sixth green we had to wait for the greenskeeper to sweep the green. I promptly hit the putt too hard, forgetting the dew had been swept, speeding up the green.

7. Good straight driver off tee to the middle of the fairway. Popped up a 9 wood. Six iron bounded left. Cruddy chip. Good chip. Good long putt.

8. Decent driver off tee. Cruddy 6 iron out of high grass. Good 8 iron stops on green thanks to water. Too long putt, then another bad putt.

9. Bad 6 iron off tee then better tee shot. Bad chip then better chip. Bad putt.

Stopped by Chickfila for an egg white delight. Would’ve gotten a milkshake, but it was still breakfast hours. Home for ESPN College Gameday, Florida@LSU, KY@GA, and the Braves. Had the washer and dryer going all day. Took a nap. C fixed a Mexican casserole for sup. Matthew ate with us both Saturday and Sunday night.

Sunday School and worship. Leftovers for lunch. Ceil went to Dekalb Farmers Market. I took a nap, then raked leaves. Homemade pizza for supper, and the Braves game.

In its 49 year run, Saturday Night Live is getting their lowest rating in its history, due to its switch from pure comedy to becoming a woke political sounding board.

Apple took down Bible and Quran apps in China, per the government’s request. What’s to stop the US government from doing the same?

Not as good as it sounds.
