Matt Ryan: Poor Man's Aaron Rodgers

Everyone talks about how great Aaron Rodgers is, but is he that much better than Matt Ryan? Rodgers had the benefit of playing on better teams. He missed 6 games in 2013 and 9 in 2017. Ryan has only missed three games in his career, and played in all 16 games nine straight years. Both have reached the Super Bowl once in their 14 seasons as a starter. Not much difference.

The only reason Ryan is a problem for the Falcons is his enormous salary limits the team acquiring other players. Ryan has restructured his contract, but not to the degree that Tom Brady ever did.

Tight end Benjamin Watson (a great person and citizen) made one of the great hustle plays in NFL history, running the length of the field diagonally to tackle an opponent. Watch:

Lots of displeasure on social media about GT’s loss to Notre Dame. Some think the players are quitting on Geoff Collins. Not much pursuit on Irish players headed toward the end zone. Collins is supposed to be a defensive coach, yet the Jackets are allowing yards at a record breaking pace. Supposedly Collins is recruiting better than Paul Johnson, but the defenses didn’t completely change systems like the offense did. Notre Dame’s second team was better than Tech’s first team. Not many wins on Tech’s 2022 schedule, but it’s doubtful Collins will be fired due to the huge buyout on his 7 year contract.

People talk about Tech beating Georgia in basketball, cross-country, and volleyball like it means something. It doesn’t. I can’t believe that basketball coach at UGA hasn’t built a better program, but it’s hard these days with players transferring every year. No wonder Coach K is retiring.

A new Harvard study shows homeschooled children turn out happy, well-adjusted, and engaged, faring better than those who attended public school in many categories. I only bring this up because of the stigma I see carried by my homeschooled but well-adjusted children, who joke out their upbringing.

Things have definitely changed with home schooling, which isn’t the correct term any more. Long gone are the days the kids learn at their own home all by themselves. Now “homeschool” kids gather with other kids in small learning groups both formal and informal. They might be with a different group almost every day of the week, so they’re actually interacting with more people than students in a public school. They’re around kids of all ages as well as grownups, instead of being stuck in a class all day with kids their own age. This way that have to learn to interact better with others, which not being drug down by as many bad apples.

I need to quit Twitter. Know it all millennials think the world started and ended with them. Don’t want to hear about what happened before their time. Think they had it bad following the Braves from 2014-2017 when they played 0.442 ball, finishing 2nd,  4th, 5th, and 3rd.  Didn’t want to hear about the 70’s or 80’s. Back them it was worse: .412 ball from 1975-1979 with four last place finishes and once next-to-last. From 1985-1990 they played even worse: winning at a 402 clip, winning last four times and next-to-last twice. Bet those know-it-all’s went to public school.

KRIS BENSON  [B-R Bio] once called 911 because his wife was armed and threatening him. He had a dynamic relationship with his wife Anna. Benson played for the Clemson Tigers in college. He ended his time as a major leaguer with ARIBenson was born in Kennesaw, Georgia. He was named the Baseball America College Player of the Year in 1996. Born to parents who were big baseball fans. All four Benson kids’ given names begin with K, the notation used when a player struck out during an at-bat. His teammate at Sprayberry HS (Marietta, GA) was Marlon Byrd [MLB career WAR of 25.8 to Benson’s 13.1]. They were MLB teammates for one season, in 2009 with TEX.

Denison: Sanjiv Chopra has studied those who win the lottery, concluding that at the end of the year, they're back to their "baseline" happiness and "some are less happy." We grow accustomed to what we possess, so it becomes familiar and loses its ability to make us happy. What makes us happiest? Finding a purpose in life, giving to others, and expressing gratitude. "If you express gratitude on a regular basis, you'll be happy, you'll be more creative, you'll be more fulfilled—you might even live ten years longer." Research shows you can increase your happiness 25% by regularly expressing gratitude.

A top politician tweeted a Rittenhouse statement containing incorrect information. Another adviser tweeted 'no justice, no peace' – is this what we want from our political leaders?

Saw where a former coworker had quit his job last week. Got to work today and he was back working with us.
