Blanda, Stabler, and Namath

Cool photo of Blanda kicking and Stabler holding. Someone mused how Bear Bryant coached two of the biggest playboy QB’s – Namath and Stabler. Blanda wasn’t known as a playboy, but I noted that he was coached by Bear as well.

Friday evening M cooked an Indian dish, chicken and rice: biryani. Not my fave.

No golf Saturday. Too cold. Surely my playing partners stayed home. Instead I slept late. Homemade pizza on Saturday night. M ate with us.

Skipped church because Saturday my body had been aching. Just wanted to be sure. Didn’t do much. Watched golf, did laundry, got gas for the mower.

Monday: lifted weights at the Y. Slept 30 min later than usual but still got my 45 min of weights in. Working from home today. Been a busy morn. Got a lot done but not all what I need to get done. Was cold, but the sun is streaming in the window now, so it is warmer. Sat at my laptop working until it was time to go to small group. Been steady this AM as well. Woofed down a quesadilla on the way to church. All six in attendance. Acts 21.

Tuesday: ran / walked at the YMCA this AM. Stopped by RaceTrac on the way to the office for a free drink. Still no diet Mtn Dew. Gotta try a different RaceTrac.

Tonight I’m headed down near the old Sears building (Ponce City Market) to see 75 year old Gilbert O’Sullivan in concert at City Winery. He had a few hits in the 70’s: “Alone Again Naturally” and “Claire, the Moment I Met You I Swear”. Maybe one other song I’d heard of, I think named “Get Back”. Should be an experience.

Will Ja win MVP? Seems like he deserves it.

Saw on line where someone had skipped a space before using punctuation ( ! ? ) . Made someone else mad . I was not involved .

From Catalyst: we live in such an achievement-driven world that hustle is considered the bragworthy lifestyle. But what are we sacrificing in the name of hustle? If you want to be a more present person, then this is for you. The importance of being a present person, with practical steps. Watch the video to become a more present person. (note: could be wrong, but I don’t think this is Fred O’s daughter).

Andy Stanley is preaching “Investigating Jesus: How we know. Why we follow”. I need to listen to these. Part One.

BILL GULLICKSON  [B-R Bio] broke Bob Feller’s record for strikeouts by a rookie in a single game. On 10-Sep-1980, Rookie Gullickson struck out 18 Chicago Cubs on a complete game 4-hitter. Feller’s record of 17 Ks had lasted three days shy of 44 years. The record now stands at 20, set by Kerry Wood on 06-May-1998. A former Yankee, he led the majors in victories the year before the first major league players’ strike. For 1991 DET, Gullickson won 20, tying him with Tom Glavine, Scott Erickson & John Smiley that year. In 1992, although no games were lost from the regular season schedule, the players took control of their union and voted to 47-0 to strike.  Hint: #2 Teammates remember seeing him using hypodermic needles to give himself shots. Gullickson’s juvenile diabetes was first diagnosed during the 1980 season, his rookie year.
