Sermon notes: Ephesians 6: 1-9 is countercultural, both then and now. Leading up, how you live your life in a way that puts Jesus first to please him.
Example: St Patrick his life, he didn’t get rid of literal snakes but turned people to God. Be filled with the spirit.
Four roles are mentioned…
1. children obey and honor your parents in the Lord, those old enough to make a choice. It is the right thing to do. God’s design. In the Ten Commandments. It will turn out well for you both spiritually and practically. The older you get, the higher the stakes.
In “Red Panda”, the new Pixar movie, the young girl is coming of age. Puts honoring yourself over honoring parents.
2. Parents intentionally disciple your children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Do not provoke to anger, develop resentment in your children. Christ centered parenting. Nurturing. Discipline not only punishment but also in positive ways. Not outsourcing to the church to do that job.
The Four C’s, the four stages of parenting
1. Commander because I said so
2. Coach hands on
3. Counselor lead to indepenence
4. Consultant offer guidance
3. Workers do your work as if Jesus is your boss. In biblical days slaves could own property, get married, not like slaves of the 1800s. have sincerity of heart, not slacking when boss comes around. Work to bring fulfillment. We might work in heaven, it brings fulfillment and honors God. Don’t complain. Seek to please the Lord. Don’t cut corners.
4. Bosses treat your workers like you’re serving Jesus. Use servant leadership. There is dignity in work. Treat people fairly.
Jesus found himself in all four of these roles, and serves as an example in all of them.
Monday: left work shortly after five and headed to small group. Our leader wasn’t there, so we muddled on without his expert insights.
Tuesday morning I knocked out three miles on the treadmill, in 39 minutes.
Last night I was only able to chip about 40 balls before supper. Worked late to enter a bunch of orders for purchasing.
C cooked meatballs in a soy sauce, with broccoli over rice. She thought is was too salty but I liked it. M ate with us. I went to bed before 9:30.
Lifted weights at the YMCA this AM. Working from home. Getting several projects done. I’m hearing everyone will have to return to the office for at least 3 days per week starting June 18. We’ll see if it holds.
C fixed me a ham sandwich for lunch. Also leftover chili. I eat more working from home.
Returned to the St. Ann’s Catholic Church rummage sale. Bought a red Hawks t-shirt, golf chipping mat, and pair of Ashworth golf shoes - all for $2.50. Missed out on another Hawks tee and pair of red Crocs that must’ve sold. Need the old gold shoes because in the mornings the golf course is always wet and sometimes muddy. I’ll try them out tomorrow.

FRANKIE FRISCH [SABR Bio] played in eight World Series without hitting a home run, but homered from both sides of the plate in All-Star competition. Frisch batted in Series play in 1921, 22, 23, 24 for NYG and in 28, 30, 31, 34 for STL with 58 hits, not one of which was a home run. Then he homered off righty General Crowder in 1933 ASG and off Lefty Gomez in the 1934 game. No one has come close to equaling the record he set for most chance and assist in a single season. In 1927, his first year with St. Louis, he accepted 1,059 chances and was in on 641 assists. As a manager, he was a legendary umpire baiter. Here’s one example: manager Frisch was once confronted by Bill Klem, the authoritarian dean of umpires, who often drew a line in the dirt with his spikes and said, “Don't you dare cross that line”. Frisch kept circling Klem while the umpire kept drawing lines until Frisch chortled: “Hey, Bill, you're all fenced in.”
