God Save the Queen

Queen Elizabeth passed away today. For anyone under 75 years old, she is the only Queen in memory. Her reign lasted for 30% of the existence of the United States, during the terms of fourteen of the 46 US Presidents. Most of the world mourns her death and celebrate her life, though some are doing the opposite.

No truth to the rumor that Reggie Jackson killed the Queen.

I made a 48 foot putt on the third hole Saturday morning. A straight shot. I played holes one through 7 with Robert. Then he headed to the nearby first tee to play a second nine with his 8 o'clock crowd. I played 8 by myself, then joined Paul on the 7th tee. Played 7, 8, and 9 with Paul.

In the parking lot I realized no one was on the first tee. No golfers were in sight, on any of the first three holes. I decided to keep playing. Played the first four holes, then saw Robert's five-some was still on the 5th green. Thought I had time to tee off ahead of them on six, but I didn't. Headed toward the 7th tee not knowing a golfer was finishing up on the 6th green.

While walking down the 6th fairway both me and a greenskeeper got stung by bees, me in the head. I should've played five, and poked along behind Robert's crowd. By then I'd had enough, so I skipped 7 and 8 and went straight to the 9th tee, a straight walk from the 6th green. So I played 16 holes, but walked 18. 

Stopped by McDonalds on the way home. They were out of bacon, so they gave me a chicken egg & cheese biscuit.

Then by two thrift stores. I had 10000 steps by 10 am and almost 11000 before 11 am. Finished with over 14000 steps for the day. I was worn out. Didn't help when I was kneeling over to clean out two cabinets. Ceil cleaned out a third. Filled my car with stuff for Goodwill. Was glad when the UGA game came on, so I could rest.

Monday AM golf.
1. Decent drive. Good 5 iron just short of green. Good chip. Good lag putt. Bogey.
2. Cruddy 3 wood off tee sliced right. Good chip over green but good chip back. Double
3. Cruddy 7 iron off tee, but good chip onto green. Bogey.
4. Third straight cruddy tee shot. With a greenskeeper watching I poked a great 8 iron onto the green. Double.
5. Okay 3 wood off tee that stayed right. Decent chip that rolled off the green. Good chip back. Another double.
6. Good straight drive off tee. Okay 5 iron that knuckled itself down the fairway. Good 7 iron to fringe. Okay chip that rolled past the hole. Three putt. Triple
7. Badly sliced drive off tee. A flub, then a good 5 iron through the tree that crested the hill. Poor 5 iron that went right into the rough. Decent chip, then another. Two putt. Snowman.
8. Good drive pretty much straight down the fairway. A flub, then a 7 iron that didn't make it down the hill. Good chip over a mound. Three putt. Triple.
9. Flubbed the tee shot, then poked a good 6 iron just short of the green. Terrible chip, but the mulligan was much better. Another three putt on a tough green. Triple.

After golf I swung by McDonalds again. They always have deals in the app. Then three thrift stores. Bought a shirt and pants, and left them in my car to wear after the gym. Later I drove C to Michael's, Whole Foods, the bank, and Publix. Winnie came with us. C cooked burgers.

Is Yadi a hall of famer? His stats don't stack up the to recent greats: Yogi, Bench, Piazza, Fisk, and Rodriquez. Fewer home runs, RBI, walks, lower OBP, slugging percentage, OPS, and WAR. Yadi may not strike out much, but he strikes out twice as much as Yogi. Defense alone won't get a catcher into Cooperstown. Can't remember if I had posted this before.

SAM CRAWFORD [SABR Bio] a future Hall of Famer, after being released by DET in 1917 Crawford joined the minor league Los Angeles Angels of the Pacific Coast League, helping them to win league championships in 1918 and 1921. According to a biography from the Nebraska Hall of Fame Crawford was a star athlete at Wahoo High School, leading the team to two state football championships in 1896 and 1897. He was the first modern player to lead both the American League and the National League in home runs. With the Reds he led the majors in HR in 1901 with 16 (only four were over-the-fence). With the 1908 Tigers his seven homers led the AL (five sailed over the fence. Of those, three were off future Hall of Fame hurlers).
