Friday: worked until 6 pm. Ceil cooked pizza. Also lots of carrots.
Saturday: walked 18 holes of golf. Often hit two or three balls on each shot. Good practice. Stopped by McDonalds on the way home. Had a long wait. Worked around the house. Quesadilla for lunch. Burgers for supper.
Kept football on the TV all day: ESPN College GameDay, Bama@Texas, AppState@TexasA&M, UNC@Georgia State, Furman@Clemson, Samford@UGA, Tenn@Pitt, Kentucky@Florida, WCarolina@GT. That was something out in Nebraska. They paid Georgia Southern like $1.4 million to beat them.
Fourth and short. Some QB’s aren’t “comfortable” taking snaps from under center. Hogwash! He better get comfortable. Any play-caller worth his salt should know a slow-developing play rarely works for short yardage. The defense is able to penetrate. Better a quick-hitting play. If not a QB sneak. Saban got the win, and gets to yell at his players all week for not playing better. He’s in hog heaven.
Sunday School, then to Jimmy Ewing’s in Sandy Springs for his daughter India’s baptism. Bob Marsh gave a wonderful description of what baptism represents. Sweet how all the children of Jimmy & Tyler's friends gathered around the pool for the baptism.
Ewing’s personal chef was dishing out BBQ. Dorrie Owens McKoy is India Ewing’s schoolteacher, so she was there with husband Herb. Also Mark Stephens, David & Mary Hurt, Myra, and Jim Ewing. Michael Youssef’s son. Tyler and Jimmy both work from home but do a great job unplugging after hours.
George Ewing was there, squiring a nice young lady. George had played softball with Will earlier this week at Northside Drive Baptist, where Mark and David and Don Head and Steve Norman and I used to play. David Norman probably played as well.
Herb McKoy was gracious in his memory of our time at SPdL. Said I was a good youth leader for him and his friends. Shoot back then I knew far less about ministering and developing relationships, not that I’m much better now. Herb and Dorrie have a 22 year old son, an EMT.
Same old Falcons. Glad I missed it. Younghoe Koo had his 63 yard game-winner blocked. Rodrigo missed a game-winner for the Colts. Pujols hit home run number 697. Only three to go. Fourth all-time behind Aaron and Ruth (also Bonds).
Later our kids treated Ceil and me to dinner at Canoe, for our anniversary. Beil ordered the beef tenderloin over mashed potatoes. I got a durk and beef dish with fried egg, spinach, truffles, potatoes, and parmesian. Also an argula salad.For dessert we split a pistachio pie over a blond brownie, with blackberry ice cream. We were stuffed. But looked marvelous.
Our reservation at Canoe was for 8 pm. At 7 pm Ceil was out walking the dog. We left later than I would’ve liked. Then I didn’t turn on the GPS on my phone, instead driving my favorite route. MISTAKE. Got to 75 south and it was gridlock. Big trucks headed to 285 blocking me from getting over to the 75 south lanes. Finally I made my move, changing lanes left four times in a row. Made it right at 8 pm. Did you know I hate to be late ??
Ran at the gym this morning. Man I am setting the treadmill on a faster setting and running longer, but my splits, my minutes per mile, are slower than it should be. Happened on two different treadmills. Man am I slowing down more? Maybe I need a new watch.
Tonight for our actual anniversary we’re going to Houston’s on West Paces. No cell phones allowed. No flip flops, hats, tank tops, or team athletic attire. That rules out half my wardrobe. Check all the rules here:
