After the funeral, since I was out, I zipped up 400 to Peachtree Parkway Hwy 141, where I treated myself to a clearance Braves stocking cap. I am a sucker for them, but rarely wear them. This "regular" Braves toque joins my World Series toque, Atlanta Legends toque, plain black toque, and a Titleist togue. Now I can hang with Bob and Doug MacKenzie. Saw their movie "Strange Brew" years ago at the North Springs dollar theater with Don Head.
The other day people were wondering when the last time a GT QB played in the NFL. It's been a while. Joe Hamilton had a cup of coffee with the Super Bowl Buccaneers. A few others played a game or two. Rick Strom threw 22 passes over 8 years as a backup. Served as a replacement player during the 1987 strike. Before that GT QB Billy Lothridge played DB and punted for the Falcons and Cowboys. Any Tech QB's before Lothridge play in the NFL?
If GT beats UVA they'll be 3-1 in the ACC, and in the mix to win the ACC Coastal division. The Falcons are ranked in the top half of NFC teams, and can possibly make the playoffs. Who would've thought?
Rodrigo Blankenship signed with the Cardinals. Jake Fromm signed with Washington.
What we have to look forward to: a world without sin.

Monday: got through with all my errands very quickly: got gas, Goodwill dropoff, and had time to review the lesson while munching on dinner. Leader John is usually the only early bird at small group, but I arrived before he got out of his car. That gave us some time to walk inside together and catch up. Soon new member Robert arrived, and then my other friend Reid. The lesson (I Thess 2) led Robert to share a longtime concern, then I shared an update to a similar concern. I told the long version since Robert didn't know, then added recent developments for John and Reid. Reid has always been a great prayer warrior, so he closed us out with a long, pleading, thoughtful prayer.
Then I drove down to W&MC's to pick up Winnie, arriving at 8:45. Took JF to Riverside to 285 west to 20 east to MLK. Hate driving, especially at night. On the way home I took 20 east and 75 north, so I made a big figure 8. Got home after 9:30, and stayed up past eleven.
I was still exhausted from the weekend, my hips sore perhaps from all the additional bending. I had worked out 8 straight days, so I skipped the gym Tuesday morning. Started work at 7:15. After work I turned on the last few innings of the Yankees game. Later I watched some of the Phillies/Padres.
I have gotten extra sleep for two straight nights. My friend Lee is an early riser, so he came over at 7 am this morning and we took two loads to the dump. Nothing like a good trip to the dump, I always say.
RALH KINER [SABR Bio] is the only Hall of Famer native to New Mexico, which was admitted to the Union after the Cubs' next to last World Series. Kiner was born in Santa Rita, New Mexico. New Mexico was granted full statehood 06‑Jan‑1912. There are yet to be any Hall of Famers who were born in Arizona, Alaska or Hawaii. After the age of four, Kiner lived in California. Pirates part-owner Bing Crosby, knowing that Kiner was a highly paid Southern Californian highly-eligible bachelor, set him up to squire teenage Elizabeth Taylor to the 1949 premiere of the movie Twelve O'Clock High. It was their only date. Kiner owns a home run record that is often listed among the most unbreakable records. Kiner led (or tied for) the National League lead in home runs for his first SEVEN consecutive years in the majors. In all but the first one, he led the majors. From 1946-52, Kiner hit 23, 51, 40, 54, 47, 42 & 37 HR. In 1947 & 48, he tied with NYG's Johnny Mize. In 1952, he tied the NL MVP, the Cubs' Hank Sauer.
DENISON: throughout history, one of the primary reasons nations fall from greatness is the inability to recognize when the reasons for their prior success no longer apply to their current situation. When we act as though past success guarantees success in the present, we're setting ourselves up to fail. God stands ready to help if we're willing to ask. Pray for the "sober judgment" needed to make an honest evaluation of your life (Romans 12:3). Ask the Holy Spirit to show you any areas where you might be thinking more highly of yourself than you should. God isn't interested in false humility but rather, as Charles Spurgeon described it, "the proper estimate of oneself."
