Franco Harris passed away in his sleep. He was only 72. Friday is the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception, and the Steelers were going to retire his number 32. Sad. Franco retired with the second most rushing yards in NFL history, less than 200 yards behind the leader, Jim Brown. Add in playoff yards, and Franco retired with the most.
As Franco often said, he took to his grave a secret only he knew: whether he indeed caught Terry Bradshaw's deflected pass before the ball hit the ground. It was voted the greatest play in NFL history.
NBA players used to wear short shorts. Then Michael Jordan lengthened his inseams and the rest was history. In the same way, back in the 70's NFL players were wearing their white socks higher and higher. Then Franco came along, wearing his white socks way down near his ankles - starting a trend that's lasted to this day, not only in football but also baseball and basketball. Even Michael Jordan wore his socks low.
With so many seemingly healthy people "dying suddenly" while still in the prime of their life, more than ever people need to be ready to meet their maker.
Former Reds pitcher Tom Browning died suddenly this week as well. Browning was 62. Back in March Tom's wife died suddenly. She was 61. What's going on?
Tuesday: worked around the house all day. Also watched the Netflix movie "Where the Crawdads Sing". VERY GOOD.
M baked all Tuesday morning, then went out and delivered pastry boxes to customers in the afternoon. I sampled some of his pastries yesterday, but this morning all his extras were gone.
Got up this morning and ran three "fast" miles at the gym, the three fastest all year. Mile three was the fastest mile I'd run in years, since before covid for sure. Returned home and took a nap. Did laundry and raked the yard. A 15,000 step day.
