Super Bowl Sunday

Super Bowl Sunday. So glad the big game kicks off at 6:30. Halftime by 8:30. Into the fourth quarter by 9:30. The NFL really knows how to put on a show. I really don't have a dog in this fight. Pros and cons...

I like Jalen Hurts, and his receiver buddy from Alabama. Smith.

I like the Chiefs uniforms. Very traditional and unchanged. Eagles used to have good unis. Maybe they'll change in another year of two. Hate their number font.

Don't like the Eagles socks. I like the Eagles song: Fly Eagles Fly. And the Tomahawk Chop.

Rihanna smiled. Once.

Commercials I liked: Pepsi Zero. Kevin Bacon. Electric vehicles with Ricky Bobby. Ant Man beer commercial.  But Venus doing ads for hard liquor? Disney: Live Forever?

I'm just so so on Mahomes. Don't like Travis Kelsey's yellow shoes (but he wore white shoes tonight!). Like Hardeman. Don't like Harrison Butker. What kicker gets so pumped when he kicks a field goal? Perhaps after his sorry college career, and time he makes a field goal he can't believe it.

One list of greatest Super Bowl plays only included one from the first 30 games. I quickly added four pivotal plays: in Super Bowl I the Packers literally knocked loudmouth KC CB Fred "The Hammer" Williamson out of the game.

Colt HOF TE John Mackey's TD reception off the pass tipped two times. Thrown by Johnny Unitas.

Dallas tackle Bob Lilly chased down Miami QB Bob Griese for the biggest loss in Super Bowl history: 29 yards.

MVP WR Fred Biletnikoff broke open the 1977 Super Bowl with catches setting up three touchdowns.

HANK GREENBERG [SABR Bio] had 100 RBI at the break, but didn't make the All-Star team that year. It was so crowded at 1st base on the AL AS team in 1935 that Jimmie Foxx started the game at 3B while Lou Gehrig started at first. Greenberg and his 36 HR & 163 RBI won the 1935 AL MVP, unanimously. His nickname was Hammerin' Hank. In back-to-back seasons, he had more than 100 runs scored, hits, RBI, and walks, each year yet finished third in MVP voting each time. In 1937 he had 137 runs, 200 hits, 184 RBI, and 102 BB. In 1938 his numbers were 143 runs, 175 hits, 147 RBI, and 119 BB. He finished third both in 1937 & 1938 MVP voting.
