Saturday night we attended a dessert social to meet two missionary families, as part of the JFBC missions conference week (that was why Clay’s sermon had been kinda witnessing oriented). Lots of desserts: C baked cookies (below). A chocolate pudding dessert I love. Chess squares. Blueberry cheesecake. Key lime pie. Chips and dip. And that’s just what I tasted.
One missionary from the Dominican Republic Miquel, who was super outgoing. He had sat at the table next to ours on Friday night. He married a JFBC girl, and they moved to the DR to put down roots – 5 kids aged 15 to 2. They plan on living there the rest of their lives. Miquel went out of his way to talk to me. They live in the hill country of the DR, not a city. They’ve even sent out missionaries to other countries themselves.
The other couple was from Uganda. They’ve worked 15 years on a rural farm / children’s orphanage. The number of orphans have dropped from a high of 200 – because they’re doing a great job placing the kids into homes in the surrounding villages. They’re introducing a faith based “God Farming” to the area to increase crop yield. He told a story of boating on nearby Lake Victoria, which funnels into a river. The analogy was of the dangers of drifting. We also played a family feud game, men against women. At least 30 in attendance.
Sunday School and worship. Ham sandwich for lunch. Later chicken quesadilla for supper. Watched golf and basketball while folding clothes and doing laundry. Went to bed shortly after nine.
Ran three miles this AM at the gym. Last mile was the fastest. It was 6:55 and I had a half mile to go, so I had to pick up the pace so I could get to work.
Got to work and realized I hadn’t done my on-line 40 minute focus group, which was due at 9 am. Then conference calls at nine and 9:30.
We used to live in a post-Christian society. Then it became a post-truth society. Now we live in a post-reality society.
