Scoring a Football Game

Scoring a football game. Just when you thought this blog couldn’t get more boring. I was looking Reid’s scoresheet from the Packers Giants 1962 championship game. Good stuff. To have something connecting you to Bart Starr, Jim Taylor, Paul Hornung is pretty cool.

I have memories of the first Super Bowl, just playing football in the living room while the game was on in the den. My dad had Falcons season tickets, and I would pour over every page of the game program. Eventually the program was standardized throughout the NFL and named PRO magazine. I had the Falcons roster memorized. I loved the action photos and NFL stats the most. Also the roster and player photos. I’d look at where players had gone to college, though that didn’t mean much to me at the time.

Then one program had an article about keeping score of the football game. By then I was familiar with scoring a baseball game, since the scorecard was the center section in the Braves program. Scoring a football game was different – very similar to your 1962 scoresheet. I might’ve scored a few possession / drives, but scoring a football game didn’t hold my interest like baseball.

Cool sunrise on the way to work this morning.

I have a coupon for a snow cone that I have to cash in. Not exactly the billion dollar PowerBall ticket.

Tuesday: worked past 6:30. C was at her ministry. Made quesadillas.

Wednesday: up early to lift weights at the gym. C Anna & MC saw the musical Wicked at the Fox.

Work work work. Stayed past 6:40 finishing one project. Made one stop on the way home. Then phone calls, taking out the trash, looking something up from an old book, cleaning and organizing, taking Winnie outside. Was almost 9 pm before I sat down. After 11 pm before I got to bed.

Thursday: woke up at the usual time. Instead of the gym I took Winnie on a long walk. Took Ceil’s car to top off the air in her tires. Dug in the attic for beach towels. Stopped on the way to work for gas. C left this AM for Pawley’s Island. So I’ll have to leave on time / early to rescue Winnie.

Left before five but stopped at McDonalds, the post office, and Kroger on the way home. Made quesadillas and watched Modern Family while playing on my computer. Was in bed before ten.

Been hitting the gym all week? I skipped again today but took Winnie on a walk before leaving for work. Might golf both tomorrow and Sunday morning before church. Need to get my emissions done.

Experts have nominated former Super Bowl MVP Ottis Anderson and kick returner Devin Hester for the pro football hall of fame. Tomorrow I am comparing them to Herschel Walker’s NFL career. Who is more deserving?

HUGH DUFFY   [SABR Bio] won a National League batting title with an average of .440. Four additional players finished with averages above .400, and the next five were .372 or above. His first manager, unimpressed with Duffy’s height, snorted, “We already have a bat boy.” His manager, Cap Anson, soon came to realize the talent Duffy had. The Players League lasted only one season, 1890.  Duffy dominated in plate appearances (657), at bats (596); and runs (161). He also led the Players League in games played (137) and hits (191).

VIDEO on how to not slice.
