The Ramblin Hyundais

Hyundai is paying big bucks for naming rights to old Grant Field, but the Jackets don’t play but one game there until September 30 – game five. The $75 million is already paying dividends – the “old” Edge Center at the northeast corner of the stadium (built it the early 1980’s) is being replaced with a new building for the athletes.

Would be nice if Tech could make the north stands look more symmetrical – it’s an eyesore right now.

No truth to the rumor the team will be called the Georgia Tech Hyundai Jackets.

Did hear the old Ramblin Wreck (a Model T Ford) is being replaced with an old Sonata leading the team out onto the field.

Will the jerseys (or Buzz) have a Hyundai patch sewn on?

Can the Jackets have a winning season? Their ceiling is 7-5, but they’ll have to beat Louisville, Boston College, Syracuse, and Miami and Virginia on the road.  Beating Wake Forest on the road or UNC at home with be tough assignments. Beating Georgia, Clemson, or Ole Miss near impossible. Just becoming bowl eligible will be an achievement, and that may come down to the next to the last week of the season against Syracuse.

Several of Tech’s tough games come after easier games on the schedule: they could be 2-0 when they play Ole Miss (after SC State). Tech could be 3-2 when they travel to Miami, with Boston College and UNC then next up after a bye week. After weak Virginia comes Clemson, then after Syracuse is UGA. The schedule will allow Tech to bounce back after tough games, but also allow them to get the big head facing tough opponents.

Some fans are saying that instead of “Hyundai Field at Bobby Dodd Stadium” that Tech should’ve kept Grant Field, and replace “Bobby Dodd” with Hyundai Stadium, since Tech’s athletic decline can in part be attributed in part to Dodd’s decision to leave the SEC.

Many say UGA’s schedule is too easy, forgetting Oklahoma had to cancel their game against the Dawgs. Georgia still has to win the games, and will most surely play a hot team in the conference championship game – as well as in the playoff after that. Will they be up to the task?
