I left work Thursday at 515. Wreck not far from the office, so I looped around behind our plant to avoid it. Lots of traffic on the way home.
Ate with the Halls and Earharts at Fresh to Order, across from Trader Joes and Pine Straw Plaza. Not my favorite. Got a bison burger, which was good, except for the brioche bun. Also macaroni & cheese. Lee ordered salmon croquettes. Everyone else got salads what looked good, but I wasn’t in the mood for a salad.
Skipped golfing in 37 degree weather. Slept in, then came to the office to knock out some work.
This Christmas weekend the 49ers, Bears, and Eagles are wearing throwback uniforms. The Eagles are wearing all black uniforms.
Two articles: the first loving Field of Dreams and the novel Shoeless Joe, the second not so much.
DENISON: Chick-fil-A is one of the most profitable companies in their industry, with the average franchise generating $8.7 million in sales each year. A typical McDonald’s generates $3.7 million per year. CFA is the third-largest restaurant chain in the country. A new bill in the New York State Assembly is trying to change that by forcing Chick-fil-A—or at least the locations along their highways—to stay open every day. To this point Chick-fil-A has seemed content to let the process play out and wait for the bill to force a conflict rather than to seek one out. They have already signed a 33-year contract as part of a $450 million project to build 27 service areas along the highway. The project was funded without any toll or tax dollars, making it unclear how much say the state could actually have on which restaurants are placed in the stations, and how those restaurants are run. Even if the bill becomes law, it would apply to future contracts rather than existing ones. These locations include other restaurants that are open 7 days a week. Chick-fil-A is likely to remain closed on Sundays for the foreseeable future. I bring this story up because of the way Chick-fil-A has handled this and other controversies - which offer a reminder of what it looks like to stand for Christ in a way that honors our Lord without compromising our Christian principles.
ME: so if any other fast food restaurant invested another million per year in employees, salary, service, inventory, etc, could they garner $4 more million in sales? Even doubling to $2M would be more than worth it, wouldn’t it? Seems like most fast food operators are lazy, and not interested in making an extra effort. Obviously they don’t care about their customers. Sad.
ARTICLE: the peculiar but popular Netflix movie Leave the World Behind was executive produced by a former US president and first lady. Is the flick an effort to pre-program America for an unsavory future?
