Thursday: up early to golf. Was on the second hole when Gee arrived, but there was another golfer already teeing off on one. Didn’t mind playing by myself. Hit 2 or 3 balls on every shot, as the guy behind me wasn’t playing fast either.
1. Two good drives off the tee. Pulled my approach left. Three chips: poor, better, then one onto the green. “Double”
2. Four tee shots: one past the green. One left. One short. One to the fringe. Three chips: one short, one low and long, one great. Two putt for “bogey”. The greens are in terrible shape.
3. Lost one tee shot. Didn’t see where it went. Hit one short. Two poor chips and one decent. Cruddy lag putt. Let’s call it a triple.
4. Flubbed my tee shot. Mulligan low but got a good roll off the back of the green. Third try to the left fringe. Two decent chips. “Bogey”.
5. Flubbed tee shot. Mulligan to the left rough. Tremendously good chip – to within inches. “Par!”
6. Hit a great, low tee shot that just sailed, almost to the 150 yard marker. Couldn’t hit a good fairway shot. Then three chips: first okay but rolled off the back of the green. Second stayed left. Third was a low roller that made it to the green. Lag putt. “Double”.
7. Good low drive off tee. Mulligan under the tree. Hit a good 3 iron from under the tree, up the hill back into the fairway. Flubbed my first ball, then hit a good mulligan down the fairway. Hit one nice chip, to the back of the green. Good long lag putt. “Bogey”.
8. Not sure where my drive went, but found two balls in the fairway. Flubbed one chip. Mulligan was short of the green. Three wedge shots: flubbed one, hit one long, then a decent one. “Double”.
9. Three wood off tee felt good, but I never found it. Low chip rolled off the back of the green. Poor chip. Poor putt. “Triple”.
Worked until 630. Stopped by the bank and post office. Didn’t eat until 8 pm: BBQ chicken, scalloped potatoes, and tossed salad.
Did the dishes. Took out the trash. Walked Winnie. Played on my laptop and phone.
Watched Young Sheldon. Kinda scary to watch, knowing Sheldon’s father is going to die sometime before the end of May. Every scene could be his last.

JOE TORRE [SABR Bio] is the only major leaguer to get both 2000 hits as a player and 2000 wins as a manager. Torre’s 2,342 hits as divided among the positions he played: 903 catching; 787 (1B); 515 (3B); and 5 as an outfielder. He managed five teams (NYM, ATL, STL, NYY, & LAD) but only had a winning record with the Yankees and Dodgers, and only took the Yankees to the postseason. He managed a total of 4323 games. He was the first National League player/manager in the Expansion Era. His last season as a player was the 1977 Mets, where he also began his managing career. As a manager Torre won the World Series in 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2000, but lost in 2001 and 2003.
Watch the State of the Union address? People I know were arguing on social media – at least the people who haven’t blocked each other for having different political views (like some already have). I guess it’s natural for some people to be more concerned about the issues that affect their own life than the issues threatening to destroy the economy and our own country.
DENISON: Biden covered a number of issues—though to varying degrees of truthfulness. Many of the promises he made and goals he outlined are not within his power to keep. Politico looked back on Biden’s 2023 speech to gauge how well he kept many of the promises he made last February. Each pledge was graded as a success, in progress, needs improvement, or a fail. “In progress” was the runaway winner.
