Masters Weekend

Friday: W&MC had a great day at the Masters. They brought me a ball marker cap clip, and one of those small gnomes that are so popular. I worked until 6 pm. We had the girls until W&MC arrived around 8 pm. C baked a homemade pizza.

Saturday: I worked from 830-11 am. Met the guys at Righteous Que for lunch. There had been a funeral for a store employee that morning, and afterwards everyone had come to the restaurant to eat. Big crowd. Dozens of the deceased younger friends buzzed the parking lot in their hot rods.

Then home to watch the Masters. Also cut the grass. Supper was chicken stir fry.

Sunday morning we had to pick up A&C from the airport. The airport MARTA station is closed for construction, but we noticed a little 2 car tram that ran every 2 minutes from the south terminal across the interstate to the International Convention Center & Arena in College Park. Free, so it may be a convenient way to drop off and pick up from the airport.

Bad traffic coming back to Buckhead, so we took Peachtree. There was a light out at Piedmont Hospital jamming things up. Should’ve taken Piedmont Road. On the way home we ate at Jim&Nick’s BBQ. Very good. More food than we could eat. Sat at the bar so we could watch the Masters. The Hawks were on the other TV. Third TV had Bulls & Knicks.

Home to watch the rest of the Masters. Followed the Braves game on my phone. I also read a lot of articles over the weekend…

Interesting clip listing how much Augusta National takes in and pays out for various items. Not sure where these numbers come from, or how accurate they are – especially how they give away the broadcast rights to CBS in exchange for limited commercial interruption and most probably control over various aspects of the broadcast.

At least one player wasn’t happy with the slow pace of play.

Charlie Woods was spotted at the driving range giving tips to his dad on Sunday morning. Just realized Tiger’s son has the same name as the locally-owned sporting goods store that used to operate in downtown Macon back in the day.

An odd exchange at the low amateur’s press conference. The kid from Ohio State played with Tiger on Sunday, and carded a lower score.

88 year old Gary Player claims to have shot below his age the last 3000 times he’s played golf. Do the math. Most probably a tall tale. If he played 365 times per year, that’s every day for over 8 years, since he was 80. He did hit a nice ceremonial first drive on Thursday Man there were several young pros this weekend who didn’t break 80. Gary must be playing par three courses.

Nick Faldo describes the worst Masters Champion’s Dinner: Bubba Watson’s burgers. What would you expect from a dude named Bubba?

The joy of attending the Masters in unsettled times.

Detailing (but not very deeply) the various tasks performed by Masters volunteers. The article gets one thing wrong: not all “volunteers” get to play the course.

CHRIS SALE [B-R Bio] finished in the Top Five of Cy Young Award recipients for six consecutive seasons: from 2013-2018, Sale finished 5th, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 2nd, & 4th – and he finished 6th in 2012. He was the first American League pitcher to strike out 300 batters in a season this century, with 308 K in 2017. He once cut up his and his teammates’ uniforms in protest of their ugliness.
