Baby Birds

Friday: worked until almost 6 pm. Picked up Moxie Burger for sup.

Saturday: my back was still sore, so I skipped golf. Will brought Millie over (after fixing a flat tire along the way). We got to play with Millie from 945 to 2 pm. During her nap I went for a haircut and Kroger.

Later I cut the grass. Was mowing in a clockwise square. Kept hearing a bunch of chirping, but didn’t see any birds. Thought my mower might be squeaking. Then I spotted a tiny baby bird hopping around in the uncut grass. Two parent birds flew down, chirping at me. I stopped the mower. The baby bird hopped halfway across the yard. I went to get my phone to take a picture, but by the time I returned all three birds had disappeared into the brush.

I went inside. Fried had a no-hitter going. By the 7th you could tell he was struggling. Took Jimenez 30 pitches to get out of the 8th – but still no hits or runs. Raisel Iglesias pitched the 9th, walking the first batter before retiring the next two. Then JD Martinez homered, breaking up the no hitter and shutout. Fried looked dejected on the bench, but he always looks that way. After the game I had to go finish mowing the yard. A 9400 step day.

Saturday was M’s last day at Bellwood Coffee. Tomorrow he starts at Kimball House in Decatur.

After Sunday School we drove down to meet A&C at Little Rey. Will had to work, but MC and the girls joined us. Made a couple of stops on the way home, arriving back at 4 pm. Watched Rory win in Charlotte, and then the Braves game.

Up early this AM to go to the gym. Gas at RaceTrac was $3.019, so I topped off my tank when I stopped for my free drink. Yesterday in East Cobb gas was $3.479 in East Cobb.

MC flies back to Washington DC today. One of the students she mentors has been invited to the White House.

WILLIE MAYS  [SABR Bio] pitchers who surrendered Mays’s 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th & 600th home runs were Joe Nuxhall, Warren Spahn, Jack Curtis, Curt Simmons, Dob Nottebart, and Mike Corkins. Of the 17 players with more than 1,835 career RBI, he is the only one who never led his league. Although finishing in the Top Ten in RBI eleven times, he never was first in any year. He did, however, lead the Giants in RBI in 1954, 1955, 1956, 1957, 1958t, 1960, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965 & 1966. On 11-May-1972 the SFG traded Mays to NYM for Charlie Williams & $50,000.

John Ed: a teen in Missouri couldn’t find shoes to fit his size 23 foot. Shaq heard of his story, and called him – and sent him 20 pairs of shoes (I’ve heard several similar stories about Shaq).
