Met A&C and Matthew & Monsie for supper Sunday night at Kimball House in Decatur, where they work. A wonderful meal, and the staff kept bringing out extra dishes for us to sample. For each dish Matthew and especially Monsie would describe in detail each ingredient, and how and who prepared it. Oysters, beef tar tar, finger potatoes, pork lettuce wraps, white asparagus, arugula salad – all in addition to the meals we ordered. The owner stopped by the table, and mentioned how out of all the staff, Monsie makes the best beef tar tar as everyone.
I got the pork porterhouse. C and M got a delicious chicken dish, Caleb the grouper, Anna got ravioli (above), and Monsie the steak. For dessert we ordered the strawberry dessert that M had made earlier in the day (below), but they also brought out crème brulee and a piece of pie with ice cream. We were stuffed.
As expected the entire weekend was busy busy. Cut out of work at 515 on Friday. Ceil went to the Good Friday service and didn’t get home until after 8 pm. Gave me time to crash.
Saturday morning we visited with friends at their daughter’s 5 year old birthday party. R&H, S&A, Georgia, Samuel, Virginia, Brian, Hannah’s parents, another couple, plus at least eleven other kids, so about 25 in all, but we were outside all spread out in a sunny meadow. The kids were playing in the creek. Then the Stripers game on Saturday afternoon / evening.
Sunday morning we made it in time for the 830 am Easter service. Both the sanctuary and gymnasium were packed. Saw some old friends as I arrived: Lee, Lynn, and Maggie. A&C had beaten us there and saved us seats. One of the anthems there in the gym was sung together with the sanctuary, the guitars, drums, and piano together with the orchestra in the sanctuary.
Back home Ceil made a tomato pie to go with a breakfast casserole, fresh fruit, arugula salad, and deviled eggs. After brunch he had just enough time to hide the eggs before W&MC arrived with the girls.
They had a big time with their Easter baskets and candy and the egg hunt. Little Millie would slowly unwrap a chocolate egg to eat. Each time she’d pull off a tiny piece of foil she would hand it to me – each time saying “here you go, Bobble”.
Had time to crash a little Sunday afternoon. Saw Justin Thomas sink his birdie putt to win the Heritage in sudden death. Didn’t get to bed until 11 pm. Didn’t sleep well. A busy, exhausting, but fun weekend. Made it to the gym both Monday and Tuesday morning before work.
VIDA BLUE [SABR Bio] is the only non-Yankee switch-hitter ever voted American League MVP, in 1971. He played for the Royals from 1982-83. Blue and his Oakland teammates won the 1972 World Series, 4-3 over the Reds, who dominated in the 1970s to earn their “Big Red Machine” nickname. He is the first pitcher to start the All-Star Game for both leagues: for the AL in 1971 & 1975 pitching for the A’s. As a Giant, he started for the NL in 1978. The NL won all three of his ASG starts.

Denison details why secularism failed to replace Christianity. Also how “experts in epidemiology and public health tied themselves to badly flawed theories, closed their minds to new evidence, and threw the mantle of ‘science’ over value judgments for which they had no special competence” according to the Wall Street Journal. The article describes the official response to COVID. Evidence in March 2020 showed the virus did not pose a serious threat to children, but American public health professionals “remained impervious to this fact,” leading to school closures and disastrous consequences. Two Princeton political scientists add that elite institutions gave in to panic, willfully suppressed reasonable debate, and painted critics of lockdowns and mask mandates as racists, quacks, and conspiracy theorists.
