Do-Overs

Watched a Hallmark movie last night that was actually decent. I just turned it on for Ceil at 9 pm, but she went to bed at ten. I was liking the movie, so I stayed up until it ended at 11 pm. “Love Strikes Twice” about a 37 year-old lawyer whose marriage wasn’t going well. She runs into an old flame and later wishes for a do-over. She hits her head and when she wakes up she is back as a 22 year old, but with her same 37 year old memory. She considered marrying her old boyfriend, but realizes he was too different. She stuck with the guy she eventually married. Later she accidentally hit her head again, and woke up back as a 37 year-old. Her marriage was much better, mostly because she had ditched her big corporate law career in Chicago, instead staying in her small hometown where she and her husband were much happier. The actress, Katie Findlay, was previously in Psych and Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist.

Serendipitously, an article on how to change your spouse. For the most part, the girl in the movie does what the article suggests: love and serve your spouse.

As promised, more fun tidbits about the classic movie Back to the Future II.

Man I used to write lots of letters back when I was in college. Still have some old correspondence saved. I remember being in a youth meeting with Peyton Mosher back in the 90’s. Bob Voyles was talking about this thing called email. Sounded complicated. I didn’t own a computer back then. I didn’t get a work laptop or email until the year 2000.

Lifted weights at the gym this morning. Man today has been busy. Rejections for rust for several straight days, which means extra work for me. Focus group tonight.

Not sure if you talk basketball with Drew Kelly, but I know he watches a lot of college games, especially ACC and Wofford and Mercer.

I love Google Earth. I’ll go somewhere and later bring it up on Google Earth. Or check out a place that I’m going to go.

Saw an ad for a brace you wear just under your knee that supposedly takes the pain away for sciatica. Probably a scam, but it could work some.

BravesFest raised over $600,000.00 for the Braves Foundation charities. Over 40,000 attended. It was a crowd.

Not sure why, but Talon Golf sent me a cap. I remember signing up. Not sure yet what the catch is.

DENISON: ancient Greek philosopher Anaximander (610–546 BC) made the first map of the known world. He depicted the city of Miletus at its center. That’s because he was living in Miletus at the time. Wherever you are, you are the center of the world, so far as you can see.

R.I.P. FRANK THOMAS   [SABR Bio] [NYT Obit] his franchise single-season home run record stood for more than a decade. Thomas hit 34 HRs in 1962, the Mets’ inaugural season. The record lasted until Dave Kingman hit 36 in 1975. Frank once hit a pair of home runs in each of three consecutive regular-season games, on 01-Aug-, on 02-Aug-, and again on 03-Aug-1962 all at the Polo Grounds, where the left field foul line was just 279' from home plate. A 15' upper-deck overhang shortened the actual distance even more. Right-handed pull hitters were known to take aim at this inviting target, and all 6 of his that week were hit to left field. He made it to Cooperstown nearly half a century after his final day in the majors. He, the ‘first’ Frank Thomas (played 1952-66), was invited to the HOF to be present when the second Frank Thomas, (2X AL MVP, “The Big Hurt”), was enshrined in July 2014. A third Frank Thomas was a catcher for the Cubs. In the 7th inning 08-Jun-1961, playing for MLN, Thomas followed teammates Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Joe Adcock by launching the 4th HR in a row against CIN pitching. Then Joe Torre grounded out. The Reds won the game, and that year’s NL pennant. Thomas was the second major leaguer to get hit by pitches twice in the same inning, on 29-Apr-1962(1), in the 4th inning. Reds pitcher Willard Schmidt was the first, exactly 3 year & 3 days earlier. His home run total one season, came within six of matching the team’s win total that same year. The 1962 expansion NYM had the worst MLB record of the 20th century at 40-120. Their starting LF, Thomas, led the team with 34 HR.
