Things I Tell Myself

Article: advice / things I tell myself…

1. Calm down.

2. Access the situation. Observe. Don’t give your opinion until you really know how things work.

3. Say less than necessary.

4. Better to show yourself as being well-adjusted than capable.

5. Stay on the radar.

6. Most people on the interest are losers and outsiders. Don’t quote them.

7. If you are working all the time, then you are doing something wrong.

8. Steer clear of the charlatans and the toxic. You become who you know.

9. Don’t be friendless and don’t be rude, but skip as many social activities at work as possible.

10. Ask yourself: am I saying this because I want to prove how smart I am, or am I saying this because it needs to be said? Are you sure?

11. Forget about taking credit for things. Be glad when other people receive the credit instead of you. It’s your job to make others look better.

12. Save your money. The less you spend, the less dependent you are.

13. Write your own rules. Only follow the critical rules: get results, don’t offend the wrong person.

14. Educate yourself. Don’t expect others to fill you in. Ask questions – people love to give advice, and love people they don’t need to drag you to the next level.

15. Make it happen. Nobody cares what it will take or what problems you have, or what personal stuff it interferes with.

16. Have an exit strategy.

17. Don’t expect anyone to understand.

18. You are no more special than anyone else. Be quiet, work hard, stay healthy. What will set you apart is not skill or smarts, but humility, diligence, and self-awareness.

Lots of sickness. Dray here at work has covid, so he is at home for several days. Coworker Angie wasn’t feeling well this morning and went home. Noelle had been sick for over a week. I am continuing to pound the vitamins.

Not much to report. Too cold to do too much. Worked past 6 pm again Thursday night. Supper was the odd pasta dish that had been in the freezer.

Up early this AM to lift weights.

Looks like rain tonight and tomorrow, so no golf again. Will probably work some. My buddies want to meet for lunch tomorrow at J Christophers. Rob is moving to Spain as a missionary soon, so this may be one of his last times to go.

I've been helping redecorate the office lobby. My work has not gone un-noticed.
