As an American citizen, several issues are important to me. The economy. Foreign policy. The deficit and excess government spending. Illegal immigration and border control. The Middle East. China’s increasing dominance, and alliance with Russia and Iran. All more so than abortion and climate change, though those are issues as well. We’re electing the person who can best lead on all these issues. We’re not electing a pastor for a church or picking who is the nicest or less mean – both candidates are seriously lacking in this area. While one candidate may be prone to exaggeration, the other spouts out and out lies – as does her vice presidential candidate.
The candidate doesn’t have to be a Christian, but to reply to a “Jesus is Lord!” shout with “You must be at the wrong rally” is for sure the final nail in the coffin. Then the very next Sunday she was asked about her response while speaking in a church – and had those questioning her removed from the church building. As brazen as she is as a candidate, just think how bad she would be if elected. What’s sad is that stories like these aren’t even showing on the radar screens of half of the country.
Let the Christian voter beware. Should be interesting to hear what JFBC pastor Clay Smith has to say about these things in the coming weeks – as he has promised to do.
A Southern California man discovered a stack of mail-in ballots in storm drain. There are already reports that the Dominion voting machines in Georgia and other states are “erroneously” flipping votes from one Presidential candidate to another.
The FCC is investigating CBS for a “significant and intentional news distortion” for editing their 60 Minutes interview with Kamala. A Facebook executive admitted to deliberately suppressing anti-Democratic posts. Google has been proven to be doing the same thing. Kamala appears to be floundering, but just watch some miraculous resurgence in the wee hours of election night, and / or the days thereafter, remarkedly similar to Biden’s win in 2020. Just crazy how this stuff happens, isn’t it?
The Stone Mountain carving is no longer being maintained, making it harder to make out the details of the Confederate memorial. Someone said they thought it appropriate to not erase the carving from history but let it deteriorate over time. A metaphor for what’s going on in our country. Who decides which political statues and memorials stay, and which ones get removed? The political party in power?
Thursday: stayed working on my laptop until almost 730 last night. The workers had stayed well past 6 pm. Ceil had the old picture moulding removed and new regular crown moulding put up. At some point the living room, dining room, and foyer will be painted. The spaces looks big without the furniture. Also had a step reconfigured, so at some point the steps will be recarpeted, or something.
Supper was grilled BBQ chicken, kale, mashed potatoes, and tossed salad. Watched the series premiere of the Georgie and Mandy spinoff from Young Sheldon.
Friday: up early to lift weights at the gym this morning. Customer is closed but I have a ton to catch up on. We had lots of cleanup to do this weekend, plus I needed to drag out all my winter clothes. And laundry.
SATURDAY: early golf with the professor and the veteran. Then two thrift stores, RaceTrac, a haircut, and McDonalds. Got home at 11:30. Worked on pulling out our winter clothes. Watched UVA@Clemson and Irish@GT . Supper at the Halls was BBQ from Righteous Que.
Sunday School and worship. Ceil fixed sandwiches for lunch (above) and supper. I turned on Seattle@Falcons but took a long nap. Did some laundry but not much else. Wild how high the Falcons were ranked leading in to the Seattle loss.
Monday: up early to lift weights at the gym. After work we made pizzas at Anna’s place to celebrate Matthew’s birthday.
ARTICLE: how to want less.
STEVE CARLTON [SABR Bio] his record for most balks in a season was broken by Dave Stewart’s 16 in 1988. Carlton had 15 in 1979. 1988 was the year of the Balk. MLB told umpires to be stricter in calling balks, but it got a bit out of hand. Here is a good article on the subject. Carlton was the first 20th-century pitcher to strike out more than 18 batters in a nine-inning game. On 15-Sep-1969, Carlton K’d 19 Mets. Despite that, his team lost the game. He started more games than any other left-hander in history: 707 (6th place overall). Tommy John (700), Tom Glavine (682), Warren Spahn (665), and Jamie Moyer (638) round out the top 5 lefties.
