QB of the Week

Despite throwing two interceptions, GT QB Jeff Sims won the QB of the Week award. Here are a few Total QB ratings:

06. 88.7 Trevor Lawrence Clemson junior

12. 74.6 Greg Sims GT freshman

17. 66.3 Chase Bryce Duke senior

23. 56.0 Sam Howell UNC sophomore Heisman candidate

42. 21.7 James Blackman FSU senior (42 of 44)

Anna’s best friend Alex is getting married this weekend, so Anna will be busy with that for the next few days. Like C, M, and me, she bought a pair of new shoes with a discount from her work. White (below). She has a yellow pair just like them.

Hopefully we’ll have a quiet weekend with Ceil recovering. US Open, GT game, Clemson game. We’re in no rush to return to worship. JFBC has worship services you can attend, but Sunday School is on line. My new Monday night small group should be starting soon, with holdover Rob, new leader John, and another guy I don’t know yet. Ceil’s small group will be Thursday night.

UGA will be wearing throwback uniforms in their season opener at Arkansas next week, in celebration of the 40th anniversary of their national championship in 1980. The red pants the Dawgs wore in their 1980 season opener at Tennessee – Herschel Walker’s first game.

Speaking of Herschel, he was one of 12 halfbacks and 3 fullbacks nominated for the Pro Football Hall of Fame 2021 class. Of these backs only one return man had gained more yards than Walker. Details tomorrow.

Article: love for all the quiet people in meeting, who pay attention, take notes, don’t drag out the meeting longer by making unnecessary comments in an effort to make themselves look good, and who go back to their desks after the meeting to do the actual work generated in the meeting.

Thursday: Ceil came home and rested. I went to Kroger for Advil and picked up chicken sandwiches from Moxie.

She said to not fill her prescription, then at 8:36 decided she wanted it filled. I jumped up and headed for the car. Sure enough, the Kroger pharmacy was closed. Went to CVS at Pine Straw Plaza. Also closed at 8 pm. Went to the next CVS less than a mile away. They had just closed at 9 pm. Same at the third CVS I tried. Every time I parked I had to put on my mask, grab my wallet, phone, and keys, and get out of the car and go inside.

Took Lower Roswell to Old Canton to Robinson to Upper Roswell, a clockwise route without many stop lights (as opposed to the counterclockwise route with lots of stoplight. The route I took was most direct). The Walgreens pharmacy was still open. Took over an hour round trip.

Wendy’s has a drink made with coffee and a Frosty. That’s coffee I could drink.

EDDIE STANKY [SABR Bio] has the second-shortest career tenure of any manager in Texas Rangers history - One game on June 22 1977, it lasted 3:16.  Del Wilber’s one game was a mere 2:09. Stanky played on three different teams that won a pennant, but he never won a World Series - 1947 Dodgers, 1948 Braves, 1951 Giants He is the only second baseman to walk more than 135 times in a season (and he did it three times). In 1945, Stanky walked 148 times (tied with Barry Bonds for 14th all-time). To be fair Bonds also holds 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 9th, 20th, 52nd, 62nd, 79th, and 90th places in the top 100. Still, Stanky keeping impressive company, can be found at 32nd, 79th, 228th, & 446th. Stanky also walked 137 times in 1946 & 144 in 1950. The only other second baseman who comes close is Joe Morgan, who walked 132 times in his first MVP season, 1976.
