Braves: Good News Bad News

Good news / bad news – Shane Greene has been released. AJ Minter was called up. Greene might've worn the Braves classic striped stockings better than any other player. Gonna miss that. 

Greene wears his uni much better than Minter. AJ's pajama pants and white shoes are far from slimming. Even the sweet Stripers fauxback unis don't look good on Minter.

Could the pitching coach be the problem? Some decisions are Snit’s, some are the general managers. I’m sure they talk. But in the end Snit has to make the best with the players the GM gives him. One of the players the Braves traded for begins his injury rehab at Gwinnett tonight. And d’Arnaud should be with the Braves tonight. He got the game-winning hit for the Stripers on Sunday.

Sunday five of the eight position players hadn’t been on the team when the season started, and Riley was at first base. And still the Braves are in the thick of it.

Calvin Johnson was drafted, played his career, retired, and was inducted into the PFHOF all while Tom Brady was an active NFL player. While he thanked the Lions fans, he didn’t mention the Lions.

A Packer fan was saying Herschel didn’t belong in the Hall of Fame because of his USFL yards. I schooled him of Walker’s NFL accomplishments. Herschel gained over 3 times as many yards as Hornung and more twice as many as Don Hutson. Not quite twice as many yards as Jim Taylor. Herschel caught more passes than Hutson, the greatest receiver in history.

Monday: worked past 6 pm. Finished one project but have three more to get done. Was after seven when I got home. Supper was grilled chicken over rice pilaf, and tossed salad. Went to bed at ten. Man yesterday I didn’t feel too good. Hopefully it was just the super busy weekend. I’m not as young as I used to be. I took some meds and lots of vitamins, and had a decent night’s sleep. Feeling better today. Legs still sore from all the hills and steps. Guess I’ll hit the driving range after work.

Took Winnie outside two times to go potty. First time she found a long stick, and sat down to chew on it. She didn’t want to move. Second time just as we were walking out of the garage she spotted a bug, and chased it. I think she had it under her paw. I think she wanted to play with it. Again, it was hard getting her to move. 

This morning I wrote the speech I have to make for a co-worker’s 30th anniversary. I think I did a decent job so far, but might add some personal touches. You’ll get to read the finished product later this week, and not get all the hilarious inside jokes.

Another coworker does have covid. Also his wife and 22 year old son. He hasn’t been in the office since last March, and hadn’t gotten vaccinated. Making my job busier this week though. It is all about me, you know.

Long lunch today. Had business at the bank. Long wait at Wells Fargo, so I went to Chase. Then across Pleasant Hill to the UPS Store. Then to Jimmy Johns. Went inside but they couldn’t take my order – they were out of bread. Went next door to Zaxby’s. Like slaw? Today the lady at Zaxby’s asked if I wanted the slaw. Of course! A passable sized cup of slaw. Sometimes you get a tiny cup of slaw at some places, hardly two spoonfuls.

JIM BOUTON  [SABR Bio] was an All-Star power pitcher, who made to make a comeback eight years after his retirement because he had developed a knuckleball. Bouton left baseball after pitching for HOU in 1970 season and returned w/ATL for a brief stint in 1978. Bouton was an AL All Star in 1963. His ERA was actually better eight years later. His 1970 ERA was 5.40 & improved it to 4.97 for his 29.0 innings in 1978. He wrote the famous book, “Ball Four” wherein he revealed previously untold secrets and foibles about teammates, managers and coaches alike. No one had ever done an exposé like this one. It became an immediate best-seller and has sold millions of copies worldwide.  It is listed at #66 in Time magazine’s 100 greatest non-fiction books of all time. His smart-aleck follow-up book was titled, “I’m Glad You Didn’t Take it Personally”.

Nice when the geese stick to the sidewalks. Birthday boy David Hurt said this wasn't funny. Hey, I tried. I try and try, throwing out bit after bit in an effort to gain Hurt's approval. Why else do Instagram? Sorry, but every joke isn't going to be laugh out loud funny. Tough crowd.
