Happy Birthday Tom Brady

Tom turned 44 last week. From the book I am reading: Patriots owner Robert Kraft invited Brady to come along on their trip to Israel, early in Brady’s career. At the Wailing Wall Brady bowed and said a prayer, then wrote out a prayer and stuck it in the wall, as is the tradition. Brady had grown up in a strong Catholic household, as had his wife Gisele. Tom had agreed to meet Gisele for a blind date, though neither were looking to get involved. He had no idea she was the highest-paid supermodel in the world. She had no idea he was the most popular player in the NFL. They wound up talking for three hours. At the age of 30 Brady already knew he wanted to play deep into his 40’s.

Friday night Ceil and I ate at Marlow’s Tavern. C had swordfish. I ate a burger, with a side salad. Very good.

Played an early nine holes Saturday morning. Came home and did some cleaning and laundry. Our neighbor Shelia knocked on our door, all in a panic. A rabbit had gotten stuck in the net behind their basketball goal. I went over and helped cut the net, untwist the net, and free the bunny.

Drove over to Gwinnett for the Stripers game. Was walking a lap around the outfield before the game. An employee gave me a Pacific Coast League baseball, and I found another. Then a huge thunderstorm hit, and the game was called off.

Ceil made lasagna for supper. Also salad, apple tarts, and ice cream. Anna joined us. Long day. Took over ten thousand steps. Stayed up too late, but slept past 9:15 am.

Went to the Sunday Braves game. Sat in the shade in centerfield. Good game. Braves are 7-3 in their last ten games, two behind the first place Phils, who have won 8 of their last ten. Minter is tearing it up out at Gwinnett. Six saves in six opportunities. No one wants him to be called up. Guys can relax in AAA and play well, then get called up and press, get all tensed up, throw too hard instead of pitching, resulting in more walks.

 

After the game I went across the street to the Hank Aaron exhibit. Masks were required. Here are links to a photo of me at the exhibit.

W&MC and Anna came for dinner. Will had smoked a brisket. Delicious. Ceil made grilled broccoli, potatoes au gratin, watermelon, and slaw. Brownies and ice cream for dessert. Second straight day with 10000 steps. Worked out 5 of the past 7 days. I’m tired and sore.

The house next door just went up for sale, and people were looking at it all weekend. The lady said the first two lookers said they’d be making offers. Since we’ve been in our house at least six different people have owned that house, one of the nicest in the neighborhood: (1) the banker, (2) Randy & Tamara, (3) the crazy lady, (4) Brett & Carla, (5) Larry, and (6) Shelia.

Grizz Gaming travels to Dallas for the playoffs. Will the Grizzlies traveling secretary make all the arrangements?

I hear George had to close Taqueria due to electrical issues related to the bridge closure. Is he back open yet? Anna was going to go last week, but couldn’t. She’s been working long hours since several workers returned to school.

Anna’s friend Caleb has a light case of covid. Lost his sense of small. Bored at home, he’s been up on the roof cleaning out gutters. Matthew wasn’t feeling well yesterday, and missed our family meal. A coworker tested positive today (he's been working remotely since last March). He feels terrible. His wife and son are sick as well. She may have come in contact with someone with covid last Wednesday at church. None of them were vaccinated. I’m gonna step up my vitamin intake.

Remember Sharon Langley, my friend from Tech? She coached Mighty Mites with me back in the day. Today’s her birthday. 

JUAN MARICHAL [SABR Bio] a one-time Dodger, he took a no-hitter into the 8th inning in his MLB debut. On 19-Jul-1960, Marichal held PHI at bay until Clay Dalrymple singled with one out in the 8th. Marichal got a one-hit complete game win. He pitched for LAD in 1975. He is the only Hall of Famer to give up a fellow Hall of Famer's 500th home run, surrendering Eddie Mathews’ 500th HR on Bastille Day 1967. Marichal was the first Giants pitcher to throw a no-hitter after Carl Hubbell did. Marichal no-hit the Colt .45s on 15-Jun-1963. Hubbell had done it 08-May-1929.
