The Baby That Ate Truist Park

The Braves tickets became available late yesterday afternoon, so I left work at 4:30. W&MC were looking for a night out, so they went to the game. Shivonne’s second game, and she made it on the jumbotron for the second time. Sorry about that title, it was too good to skip.

C was at The Table at Delk. I went home and made nachos instead of quesadilas. Cut the grass and cleared out the leaves. That was two miles. This morning I was supposed to run. After a mile and a quarter I switched to lift weights for the rest of the time. Worked from home today.

Finished my Dan Crenshaw book and started a Paul McCartney biography.

Aaron Judge tied Babe Ruth with his 60th home run. Should he be MVP, or should it be Otani? The Angel has 34 HR but batting .268, and pitching a 2.43 ERA, a record od 13-8. Judge is currently leading all three triple crown categories. Gotta be Judge for MVP.

The Falcons are rebuilding this year. They aren’t expected to win many games. It’s a 2 or 3 year plan. Yet they were in both games so far until the last play. Not really worth it for talk radio to moan and groan and point fingers about Mariota or whose fault it was they lost. Mariota isn’t going to be the long term solution. He’s going to make mistakes. Sure you play to win, but with the roster they have, wins will be few and far between.

Braves clinched a playoff spot. Fifth straight win. I still say Jansen might get the hook from Snit in the playoffs, if he doesn’t up his game. Kenley still has two weeks to get better. Kyle Wright won his 19th game. He leads the league in wins, but won’t get Cy Young consideration. Jansen leads the league in saves. Today the Braves hosted their three millionth fan.

Sports talk wonders if UGA will put up 70 on Kent State, forgetting the subs will go in when the Dawgs are up 40. Last year Stetson threw downfield. This year they’re throwing more short passes, spreading out the field to hopefully open up the running game. Throwing to backs and tight ends more than wide receivers.

CAL RIPKEN  [SABR Bio] was the first shortstop to win more than one American League MVP, in 1983 & 1991He drove the pace car for the Daytona 500 the year that Kevin Harvick won that race for the first time, on 18-Feb-2007 Ripken broke a career record that had been held by Hank Aaron but he was then himself passed by Albert Pujols. Cal retired with the most double-plays grounded into, 350.  Pujols is the current record holder adding to his total as recently as Saturday.

MIKE TROUT  [Wiki Bio] is still the youngest player to reach both 100 home runs and 100 stolen bases. Trout had already amassed 104 career SB on 17-Apr-2015 when he hit his 100th HR run at age 23 years, 257 days. The record holder had been Alex Rodriguez, whose 100/100 mark was reached at age 23 years, 309 days. Ronald Acuna did not steal his 100th base until after he turned 24. For years, Trout was considered the best player in the majors. Remarkable considering that two of his three MVPs were won playing for 3rd and 4th-place teams. If the second half of his career matches the first half, he would be in reach of finishing second all-time in career WAR, trailing only Babe Ruth. If you doubled Trout’s current career WAR, it wouldn’t take much of an increase to imagine him topping Walter Johnson’s 164.9, considering how much time Trout has missed while totaling up his 81.5 WAR.
