Breaking Sock News

Breaking news (from Uni Watch): Stance revealed the socks the Braves will be wearing with their City Connect uniforms, probably in 2024. More confirmation the unis will honor the 50th anniversary of Hank Aaron’s 715th home run, with the "715" looking like the old Atlanta Stadium scoreboard. I like the combo of royal and navy blue.

Ozzie Albies goal for 2023: 40 homers 40 stolen bases. Says he’ll settle for 30/30. Acuna is also shooting for 40/40. Riley and Olson could hit 40 as well. And Micael Harris is no slouch. Braves might set another HR record this year, harkening to the year Aaron, Darrell Evans, and Davey Johnson each hit 40 homers.

I am loving the Braves 2023 promotional schedule. Every winter I saw,ah, I won’t be going to many games. My favorites are the Blooper bobble, NAPA cap, and the Outcast double bobble. Most of the bobblehead games are during the week, meaning traffic and crowds are “lighter”. Might go to all the Tuesday bobblehead games because I’m free. Gwinnett has a sugar skull Xolos bobble, a Striper bobble, and a Peaches jersey.

Gotta be better organized about which jerseys to wear to games this year, so I won’t repeat. I think I am covered. Want to wear my Riley jersey to both Atlanta and Gwinnett, since he’s the big star right now.

While the Cleveland Indians changed their name, the minor league Indianapolis Indians plan on keeping the name they’ve gone by for over 100 years. Like the Atlanta Braves, the Indianapolis team has forged an alliance with an Indian tribe. Of course, the media spins it as a big negative.

San Antonio-born GREG MADDUX  [SABR Bio] had an ERA in 1994 of 1.56, the lowest of the 90’s. He also posted the second-lowest ERA of the 1990s with his 1.63 the following year. He was the first post-deadball pitcher to compile more than 200 career starts in which he did not issue a base-on-balls. In 236 of his 740 career starts, he did not walk a single batter. No major league pitcher racked up more career putouts, with 546. Kevin Brown’s 388 are a distant second. A putout is recorded by any fielder each time he causes the batter or a baserunner to be put out.  This includes catching a fly ball, line drive, or third strike before they touch the ground. MLB’s def.

Interesting article blaming Biden for the fall in popularity of VP Harris, by putting the VP in charge of “unsolvable” problems like border control. Should Biden be the nominee in 2024 he may replace Harris on the ticket with former California governor Gavin Newsom. In a poll 73% of readers considered Harris to have been the wrong choice for VP in 2020. Sixty percent think the country is headed in the wrong direction, with only 26% thinking the country is doing okay.

DENISON: those who assert Christians should not “impose” their moral beliefs on others are seeking to impose their moral beliefs on Christians. Many claim biblical morality is homophobic and dangerous to society, which is itself a moral claim. By definition, to reject a moral position as immoral is to take a moral position.
