Funny Story

Sunday during his sermon our preacher told the following story:

A husband and his wife update their last will and testament, and are on the way home. The husband tells his wife “Dear, if I die, I don’t want you to be alone. You have my blessing to get remarried”. The husba nd continues “And it’s okay if your new husband wants to drive my car, or use my lawnmower and tools”. But the husband thinks, then adds “But sell my golf clubs. I don’t want your new husband to use my clubs”.

The wife responded: “It’s okay. He’s left-handed”.

When the preacher finished, no one laughed (but me). Clay loved that the joke bombed, and commented on it.

More wedding pictures are coming out. I'm thinking about posting one per day, like I do with Shivonne. We shall see.

Wednesday: worked past six. Supper was a stir fry dish. M ate with us. Watched Masters coverage and Jeopardy. Started getting ready for bed at 9:30.

Still not 100% but I ran at the gym Thursday morning. By 5:30 I’d had enough of work. On the way home I realized I needed gas, and had already passed by regular station. So instead of cutting down by the river I took Holcomb Bridge to the Roswell RaceTrac. Then the pump wouldn’t read my loyalty number. So when the gas was pumping I checked my RaceTrac app and discovered they were giving away hot dogs. Score!

M was out, but C fixed spaghetti, chicken tenders, and broccoli. Masters and Jeopardy. David and Haley Hurt were at the Braves home opener last night. Stetson threw out the first pitch. David thinks I go to a lot of games. My first game may be in late May.

Lifted weights at the gym Friday morning. Had I known the rain was going to hold off, I would’ve played golf. Hopefully a quiet weekend watching the Masters. Some wondered if Brooks Koepka’s caddie broke a rule yesterday.

The Yankees proposed that managers and coaches shouldn’t have to wear uniform numbers. MLB turned them down. Interesting debate. I like managers and coaches to wear uniforms and numbers. Would be cool if basketball coaches wore the same warmup suits the players wore. Seems like NBA coaches are headed in that direction. Might help with merchandise sales. I loved the old striped warmups of the 70’s and 80’s. More subdued now.

LOU GEHRIG   [SABR Bio] had but a single RBI during his final season, after having at least 100 in each of his previous thirteen. His average RBI total from 1926-1938 was 147. He led baseball four times and the AL once. Four of those totals are among the top 12 all-time. In 1931 his 185 RBI, set the all-time AL record. In his third season (but firsttfull season), in Washington, D.C. on 24-Jun-1925, in the 7th inning, off Allen Russell / Muddy Ruel, Gehrig walked, moved to 3rd on a single by teammate Wally Shang then, for the first stolen base of the 102 in his career, stole home as part of a double steal. Gehrig is buried in the Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.  In Norse mythology, Valhalla represents the final resting pace of the most valiant slain warriors. Considering his career & untimely passing, it seems quite likely that Odin would enthusiastically welcome him in.

DENISON: an ax attack at a day care center yesterday killed four children and injured at least four others.

Some will ask: should axes be outlawed?

C. S. Lewis noted in The Problem of Pain: “From the moment a creature becomes aware of God as God and of itself as itself, the terrible alternative of choosing God or self for the center is opened to it.”
