The Book Thief

I'm reading a good long book you may have heard of – The Book Thief, about a little girl in Hitler's Germany.

You know you're getting old when you look up celebrity birthdays, and have never heard of anyone on this list. People I know celebrating a birthday today: Mary Hurt, Suzi Voyles, Darryl Toole, Alan Page. Wayne "Newman" Knight. Charlize Theron. David Duchovny. BJ Thomas. Garrison Keillor. Alfalfa.

Man I have been eating eating eating. But yesterday I bought a size large Braves tee – and it fits!

Thursday: Mexican

Friday: apple fritters, Firebirds burger & fries.

Saturday: PB&J, apple turnovers, Grindhouse burger.

Sunday: apple turnover, chocolate chip cookie, chicken & rice, sno-cone, Checkers dog & fries

Monday: chicken cheesesteak & fries, burger & fries. Apple turnover

Tuesday: Bad Daddy's burger. Arby's fries and shake.

Friday C drove to Athens to see a friend. She told me she was spending the night. So after work I are at Firebirds in Alpharetta. While there I checked my phone – Ceil was back home.  She said she wasn't hungry anyway.

Saturday AM golf, with Paul and the Professor. Hit a few good shots, but not as many as I would've liked. Only played one ball. Then back home. C was up, busy getting ready for our family get together. She made a plateful of delicious apple turnovers.

Later we drove downtown to Vine City Park, a relatively new city park just west of Mercedes Benz Stadium. When revitalization began on the Vine City neighborhood just a few years ago, a huge new park was carved out of the old neighborhood. Grass, trees, a basketball court, natural areas, places to work out, and fountains for kids to play in. M's house is on Walnut Street, right where the E is in Vine City.

Our family met and ate lunch in one of the covered picnic areas. A&B stopped at Grindhouse to bring burgers. C also made potato salad and a bowl of cut fruit.

Matthew and Will threw the frisbee. A&C joined in. Them Will and Caleb and I threw the baseball. A few neighborhood kids joined us. The girls took Shivonne over to play in the fountains. Afterwards we stopped by IKEA. C went inside. I stayed in the car and took a nap. Road construction blocked three lanes of 75 north, so I took Northside to Mt Paran to Lake Forest to Sandy Springs, then Johnson Ferry across the river home. C watched some TV so I took another nap. A 10,000 step day.

Sunday School and worship. C went back to church for a missions thing. I ran errands, and grabbed a Checkers hot dog. Laundry. Finished up King of the Land.

Ran three miles at the gym this morning.

CRAIG COUNSELL [SABR Bio] has the most career wins (674) of the 19 men who have managed in the current Milwaukee Brewers franchise. Born in South Bend, Indiana, he attended and played for Notre Dame. His preferred walk-up music was Jimi Hendrix' version of "All Along the Watchtower".(Lyrics and info).

I keep hearing over and over how Islam is a religion of peace. The people who are saying this surely are hearing the same stories that I'm hearing. Muslim fathers disowning their Christian children. Muslim husbands beat their Christian wives. Muslims who become Christians flee their homeland, but are still hunted down and murdered. Young Muslim men train to be imams, and are instructed to hunt down and kill all non Muslims. These imams must memorize the Koran in Arabic, but have no idea the content of what they're learning. The US government is not much help, using these wanted refugees as political pawns to trade back to enemy countries.

DENISON: Kimberley A. Strassel writes in the Wall Street Journal that "if lying politicians can be prosecuted for 'fraud,' as the prosecutor proposes in the Trump indictment, we'll need a lot of new prisons." She cites numerous examples of politicians engaged in actions that were, in her view, the same behavior for which the former president was indicted.
